BOYS 13-A-SIDE A FINAL

Ballyhass 5-6 Newmarket 5-4

AN impressive opening half laid the foundation for Ballyhass to overcome Newmarket in an absorbing Boys 13-a-side A Final. For what looked a routine operation with Ballyhass leading by eleven points became an exercise in survival down the home straight.

Early on, Ballyhass looked really good, moving forward with pace and precision. That provided a lively attack to enjoy possession for Michael O’Keeffe, Shane Cronin, Jack McCarthy, Anthony O’Leary and Cormac O’Sullivan strike goals for a 5-2 to 1-3 advantage at the break.

However Newmarket became a tranformed team on the restart and the play of Jack O’Connor, Brian O’Keeffe and Rory Lynn drew a positive response to eat into the arrears. And in hectic finish, Ballyhass weathered the storm to secure a narrow two point victory.

Kilbrin 5-8 Cullen 1-3

TIMELY goals set up a slicker Kilbrin to fend off Cullen in the Boys 10-a-side. Strong at the back, excellent at midfield and stronger in attack, Kilbrin drove forward with intent.

Even when a gallant Cullen came at the victors at different stages, Kilbrin were able to negotiate goals from Rónan McCory, Aaron and Brian O’Sullivan to stay a safe distance ahead at the full time whistle.

Derrinagre­e 5-8 Rathcoole 4-8

DERRINAGRE­E put together a magnificen­t second half revival to overcome neighbours Rathcoole in a thrilling Boys 10-a-side B Final.

On doing so, Derrinagre­e showcased their undoubted character and resilience to erase a seven point deficit. Rathcoole held the better of the exchanges in the opening half, Jamie Kelleher and Donnacha Murphy amongst the goals for a 2-5 to 0-4 lead at the break.

Indeed Rathcoole ‘s advantage would had been in a more commanding position were it not for a number of excellent saves by Derrinagre­e ‘keeper Michael O’Keeffe. That allowed Derrinagre­e to rally brilliantl­y; goals from Finn McKee, Dylan Murphy and James O’Sullivan helped force parity.

The closing minutes were played out in a welter of excitement before Andrew Healy netted a winner for Derrinagre­e.

Rockchapel 4-15 Kiskeam 4-10

(after extra-time) ROCKCHAPEL struck a rich vein of form in extra time to deny Kiskean in a marvellous 7-a-side A Boys Final. Thrills, excitement and passion summed up a terrific encounter with both teams running themselves into the ground.

In normal time, the contest was every bit as close and engaging as the scoreline suggests with the sides exchanging scores. When it mattered in extra time, Rockchapel held the upperhand on stepping up a gear, goals from Brian O’Carroll and Ciarán Curtin swung the tussle.

Kilcorney 5-9 Lyre 2-3

A SHARPER Kilcorney possessed extra firepower for Lyre in a keenly contested 7-a-side Boys B Final. When a spirited Lyre asked questions, Kilcorney showed they possessed the answers to up a gear and pull away. A series of promising raids saw Lyre grab first half goals from Michael Twomey and Connor Lyons.

Kilcorney lifted their game to a higher plane, combining to create a decisive impact to carve out excellent opportunit­ies, two goals apiece netted by Donal Bourke and Keenan Murphy with another goal obtained by Patrick Bourke confirmed the destinatio­n of the spoils.
