Buttevant win by the minimum

THIS was a thrilling Hibernian Hotel JAHC game at Churchtown on Tuesday evening.

The sides were level on seven occasions and it was a game that could have gone to extra time with Kilshannig missing a ‘65 with the last puck of the game. Seven players from each side figured on the scoresheet.

The winners had the aid of the slight breeze in the first half. Darragh O’Sullivan opened the scoring with Kevin Lenahan placing Kevin O’Keeffe for a good point for Buttevant in the fourth minute. Jack Twomey and J D Murphy swopped a point 0-2 each.

Buttevant hit a good patch Tadhg Healy was very impressive with Tadhg O’Sullivan and Kevin O’Keeffe also doing well. Points by Kevin Lenahan, Willie Fitzgibbon and the long serving JD Murphy opened up a three point lead.

Further pressure for Buttevant saw Kevin O’Keeffe and J D Murphy work very well for John O’Neill who made it 0-6 to 0-2. Kilshannig hit a very good patch, Jack Twomey thundered into the game with Killian O’Hanlon and Roddy O’Mahony also doing very well.

Trevor O’Regan pointed a free. In the 18th minute John O’Neill placed Tadhg Healy for a great point. Good play by Darragh O’Sullivan to Roddy O’Mahony led to a point.

In the 24th minute a sideline cut by Kevin O’Flynn to Roddy O’Mahony led to the well placed Tim O’Connell pointing. Jack Twomey pointed a free to level for the third time in the 25th minute.

Kilshannig finished the first half very strong adding 3 points to just a single point for Buttevant by Kevin Lenahan (free). At the break Kilshannig led 0-10 to 0-8.

Early in the second half Pat Nolan placed Cian Nagle for a Kilshannig point. Kevin O’Keeffe replied from a free. The Glantane side struck a purple patch with Kevin O’Flynn (2) and Darragh O’Sullivan having rapid points that opened up a five point lead 0-14 to 0- 9.

In the 43rd minute Buttevant had the only goal of the game when a long range free by Kevin O’Keeffe found its way to the net. O’Keeffe followed with a pointed free. Entering the final quarter good play by Tadhg Healy and John O’Neill led to a great point by Adrian Noonan from a tight angle.

Kilshannig had a few wides. They set up an attack involving five players, but a timely intercepti­on by JD Murphy denied a certain score. Jack Twomey edged the Glantane side ahead once more.

Good play by Tadhg Healy and Denis O’Connell led to a fine point by Kevin O’Keeffe that had them deadlocked for the sixth time after 51 minutes. Kilshannig took the lead when Roddy O’Mahony and Jack Twomey combined for Kevin O’Flynn who sent over. Kevin O’Keeffe tied up the scores for the seventh and last time following a foul on Tadhg Healy.

In the closing moments good play by Anthony O’Neill led to Kevin O’Keeffe putting the winners in front. A foul on Adrian Noonan led to another pointed free. Kilshannig had a pointed free in off the post by Kevin O’Flynn.

Deep in injury time Kilshannig forced a ‘65. Jack Twomey was notified of having to score direct. His effort dropped in the square with the final whistle following.
