Sporting Meelin weekend supports Twomey Remorial

SPORT aplenty is promised at the Twomey Family Remorial Weekend in Meelin this Saturday and Sunday.

On offer is a diverse outdoor sporting programme of a cycle, road race and GAA related events.

Proceeds from the weekend go towards supporting worthy causes, namely Bru Columbanus, Cork; St. Joseph’s Foundation, Charlevill­e; Reach Out Mental Health; 3T’s Suicide Prevention and Cork Samaritans.

Sunday’s action is up and away at 8.30am with a 55/110km cycle from Rockchapel Community Centre. Organised in conjunctio­n with Kanturk Cycling Club, the race starts and finishes in Rockchapel.

Duhallow AC are lending their backing to the Meelin 4 mile road race on Sunday commencing at 2pm. Club Chairman Donie Shine expresses delight on supporting the programme of events.

“The club are promoting the 4 mile road, we have marked the course and expect a large entry drawn from regular athletes and those interested from the immediate catchment area to participat­e,” he said.

The race is timed to start at 2pm further enquiries are available from Donie Shine at 086-8149970. Proceeding­s on Sunday commence with a four mile family walk at 1.30pm, the race starts and finishes in Meelin Village square.

A bumper weekend opens on Saturday at 10am with the U12 Hurling Blitz for the Connie Twomey Memorial Cup. Later in the day, a Table Quiz takes place in Meelin Hall commencing at 8.45pm.
