YE VAGABONDS TO PLAY SIRIUS ARTS CENTRE

CRITICALLY acclaimed Irish folk duo Ye Vagabonds will play the Sirius Arts Centre in Cobh on Saturday night, prior to them going into the studio to record their eagerly anticipate­d debut album.

Brothers Diarmuid and Brian MacGloinn began making music in their native Carlow before relocating to the capital, with their style based on close harmonies and acoustic instrument­ation inspired by various folk traditions quickly earning them a loyal and growing fan base.

The duo have also drawn the attention of music insiders, playing Other Voices and numerous different festivals in addition to touring with Glen Hansard and Villagers.

PADDY O’BRIEN & GUESTS AT MALLOW’S HAZEL TREE

COUNTRY music star Paddy O’Brien will launch his new compilatio­n CD ‘A Lifetime of Country’ at a gig in The Hazel Tree, Mallow next Monday evening.

The double album will feature 36 songs taken from the more than 30 albums he has released over a career spanning almost three decades including ‘Marion’s Rose’, ‘Louisianna’, ‘Keep on the Sunnyside’ and ‘Never Grow Old’.

On the night Paddy will be joined by a host of Ireland’s top country stars including Declan Nerney, Kathy Durkin, John Hogan, Keeley and the Ryan Turner Band. Doors open at 8pm with music staring at 9pm. Admission to the concert, which promises to be a fantastic night of music, dancing and craic, will be €15 at the door.

JOE ROONEY LIVE AND UNLEASHED AT DE BARRA’S

THE unmistakab­le figure of Joe Rooney will dominate the stage of De Barra’s Folk Club in Clonakilty tonight (Thursday).

Rooney, who is best known for his roles in Fr Ted and Killinascu­lly, is an accomplish­ed stand-up with a unique slant on life and hilarious musical impression­s charming audiences across the country.

Described by the Sunday Times as “totally unorthodox with a bizarre style”, Rooney has become a well-known and popular figure on the live circuit.

BRENDAN SHINES AT THE GLENEAGLE BALLROOM

THE inimitable Brendan Shine will play a gig will delight his fans when he takes to the state at the Gleneagle Ballroom in Killarney next Monday night.

Shine has released more than 50 albums and has had 45 hit singles during a glittering career that has taken him from his Co Westmeath home to major concert halls around the world.

He shows no sign of slowing down , last year releasing a ‘Greatest Hits’ album including classic such as ‘Abbeyscrul­e’, ‘How Much Time’ and ‘Do You Want Your Oul Lobby Washed Down’.

He will play these and a whole selection of other popular songs during Monday nights concert.

HYPNOTIC BRASS MUSIC LIVE DOWN THE LANE

THE spellbindi­ng Hypnotic brass Ensemble will bring be back in Cork on Friday night for a gig at the Crane Lane Theatre.

The band, which consists of a seven-strong brass section (all of whom are brothers) and a drummer, take horn playing to a unique level with their high-octane fusion of jazz and reggae that has earned them a large and loyal fan-base across the globe.

Having been infused with a love of music from an early age by their father, legendary jazz musician Kelan Phul Cohran, the brothers developed their own style that grabs listeners with its infectious rhythm and bold brass sound.

ULTIMATE VARIETY SHOW AT KILWORTH CENTRE

THE Village Arts Centre in Kilworth will host ‘ The Ultimate Variety Show’ tonight (Thursday) at 8.15pm featuring an exciting mix of county, folk, gospel and comedy.

The evening will include performanc­es by the ‘Queen of Country Kathy Durkin, best known for her hits ‘Working Man’, ‘Midnight To Moonlight’ and ‘ The Clock in the Tower’ and popular singer Pat Hayes.

They will be joined on the stage by the hilarious comedy duo 2 Tuff Yolks who will entertain the audience with their quirky and hilarious brand of humour.

LIFE AND MUSIC OF JOHN DENVER REVISITED

SINGER Marc Roberts will perform his critically acclaimed, award-winning show ‘A Tribute to the Music John Denver’ on Sunday night at the Ballymaloe Grainstore.

Roberts, who represente­d Ireland in the 1997 Eurovision song Contest finishing in a credible second place, will be know to many music fans through his catalogue of self-penned album.

In this show, which has spawned a chart-topping album, he takes audiences on a journey through the life an music of Denver, who died in an aeroplane accident in 1997, performing wellknown songs including ‘Leaving On A Jet Plane’, ‘Annie’s Song’ and ‘Some Days Are Diamonds’.

SINNERBOY BACK IN CORK AND ROCKING FOR RORY

THE mighty Sinnerboy will play ‘Cork Rock’s For Rory’ with special guests amid the intimate surroundin­gs of Cork’s Cyprus Avenue on Saturday night.

Fronted by long-time Rory Gallagher fan Barry Barnes, Sinnerboy have been flying the flag for their hero for many years, bringing his music to old and new fans across the globe.

THE PETER PAN OF POP LIVE AT THE MARQUEE

THE annual Live at the Marquee Music Festival will kick off on Friday night, heralding a more than a month long line-up of gigs featuring a host of top Irish and internatio­nal acts.

While tickets for Friday and Saturday’s double header featuring Picture This and guests and Sunday night’s gig by Pearl Jam front-man Eddie Vedder have sold out, the evergreen Cliff Richard will play the Docklands venue next Thursday night.

The mercurial ‘Peter Pan of Pop’ packs his shows with hits spanning his more than five-decade long career and new music, ensuring that audiences never know quite what to expect from a Cliff gig.

DECLAN IN FULL COLOUR AT THE WHITE HORSE

CRITICALLY acclaimed singer/songwriter Declan O’Rourke will play tracks from his new album ‘In Full Colour’ at the White Horse in Ballincoll­ig tonight (Thursday).

O’Rourke’s 2005 debut album, Since Kyabram, proved to be the perfect calling card for the struggling songwriter, with his follow up albums ‘Big Bad Beautiful World’ (2007), ‘Mag Pai Zai’ (2011), and ‘Gold Bars in the Sun’ (2015) cementing his status as one of Ireland’s finest contempora­ry musicians.

His songs have been covered by many artists including Josh Groban and Eddi Reader, with Weller saying O’Rourke “writes the sort of classic songs that people don’t write anymore, songs that sound like they have been around forever”.
