Ballyhooly far too strong

LAST year’s beaten finalists Ballyhooly had a comprehens­ive win over Doneraile on Saturday evening in Shanballym­ore.

Doneraile with early points by Kevin Sheehan and Lee O’Shea led 0-2 to 0-1 after five minutes. Gradually Ballyhooly got to terms Sean Linehan did very well at centre back and their midfielder­s were also in great form ensuring plenty supply to an attack that took some very good scores.

Darragh O’Reilly struck two rapid points for the winners by the eighth minute. Denis Kiely had a goal for Ballyhooly in the ninth minute. Doneraile missed a good goal scoring chance when Garry Sweeney was narrowly wide.

Gerry O’Connor two frees and Darragh O’Reilly with a point made it 1-6 to 0-2 after 14 minutes. Seamus Roche had a goal in the 21st minute and followed with a point a minute later 2-8 to 0-2. In the 24th minute a foul on Kevin Sheehan led to a goal from a penalty by Lee O’Shea 2-8 to 1-2.

Doneraile had their second goal when Cillian Good had a shot saved with the rebound coming kindly to Kevin Sheehan who goaled. By half-time the winners had moved 2-11 to 2-3 clear.

Doneraile had a goal early on the resumption when Cillian Good worked well for Kevin Sheehan 2-11 to 3-3. James Roche placed Seamus Roche for a point for the winners. Doneraile had their last score in the 34th minute when Christophe­r O’Keeffe pointed.

For the rest of the game Ballyhooly added 2-8 without reply. There goals came from Seamus Roche and Jake Mehigan that saw them go 4-17 to 3-4 clear after 52 minutes. The victors finished out the game with 3 points by Gerry O’Connor (free) and James Roche from play and a ‘65
