Intermediate hurlers win important League victory

Kanturk hurlers beat Kildorrery 3-12 to 0-8

-

Kanturk hurlers recorded a home victory in the County Division 2 Hurling league tie with Kildorrery on Sunday last June 11 on a 3-12 to 0-08 score line.

It was an important victory for Kanturk as they bid to copper-fasten their Division 2 league status, and maybe push for promotion as the season progresses.

Junior B Leagues: Kanturk take to the field in three Junior B league ties over the coming week.

On this past Wednesday June 14, Kanturk were playing host to Kilbrin in the Singleton Cup Junior B hurling and face Millstreet at Kanturk on Saturday 17 June in the Nevin Cup Junior B football at 7pm followed by another Nevin Cup game away to Kiskeam on Thursday June 22 at 8pm.

Inter county: With Cork Senior footballers’ dramatic late victory over Tipperary on Saturday last, Kanturk’s round two county championship ties in both hurling and football have been deferred to July 15 at the earliest.

The chances of one of the ties going ahead on that date is dependent on results of more inter-county fixtures over the coming weeks.

Duhallow Senior footballers swing into county championship action on this Saturday June 17 with a round 2A tie against Seandun. Victory for Duhallow will give them the direct route to round 4 of the championship.

Best wishes to team manager, Padraig Kearns and the Kanturk players involved.

Cúl Camp: Kanturk Juvenile GAA host their Kelloggs Cúl Camp from Wednesday 5 to Saturday 8 July at Kanturk GAA, Kilroe field. Further details are available on the Cúl camp website.

Under-14 hurlers in National Féile Finals: Cúchullains (Kanturk) Under-14 hurlers travel to Kilkenny on Friday June 16 for the John West Féile na nGael hurling festival. The competition is being hosted by Carlow, Kilkenny and Wexford from June 16 to 18. Kanturk last contested the 2000 finals in Belfast in a team captained by Conor Kenneally.

This year the Kanturk team is being hosted by Rower Inistioge of Kilkenny and our team will face their host club along with Tullaroan of Kilkenny and the Armagh representatives in matches to be played on Friday evening and Saturday morning in division 6, group B of the competition.

The top two teams of the group will advance to the cup quarter finals on Saturday afternoon while the other two teams will compete in the shield quarter finals.

If our teams are successful, and progress to the semi finals, they are down for Sunday morning June 18 with the division 6 cup final in Nowlan Park, Kilkenny at 1.30pm while the shield final takes place at St John’s Park, the home of O’Loughlin Gaels, in Kilkenny at the same time.

Best wishes to the Cúchullains (Kanturk) team and their management of John Moylan, Noel and Paddy Carroll assisted by Tadhg Brown for a successful and enjoyable weekend.

A strong contingent of support is expected to make the journey all the way to Kilkenny on Friday and Saturday next to support our team.
