Boherbue pack scoring power to dismiss wasteful Dromtariffe

-

Boherbue 1-13 Dromtariffe 0-11

A FAR superior conversion rate of chances allowed Boherbue outsmart a battling Dromtariffe in an entertaining Ducon Cup semi final in the Ballydesmond hosting last Sunday.

At key stages, Boherbue emerged the more probable winners because of the manner on which they controlled possession and utilised their crafty endeavours with telling effect. The defending holders linked up effectively to create opportunities whilst in contrast Dromtariffe were left to reflect on a litany of missed chances.

Though operating against a strong breeze in the blustery conditions, Boherbue tore into the fray and their intent was graphically illustrated on points to Alan Guerin, Richard Moynihan and Pa Murphy. And Boherbue’s lead might well had been of greater proportions after Dromtariffe ‘keeper Dan Mann denied Murphy with a fine save.

Territorially, Dromtariffe held their own but a rash of wides that tallied nine in the opening half blunted the challenge. For a spell, Dromtariffe got to grips with the situation, points to Gearóid Murphy, Daniel O’Keeffe and Evan Murphy squared up the tussle before Denis O’Donoughue shot wide of a gaping goal.

Still Boherbue held a solid work ethic through the solid work ethic of Daniel Moynihan, Michael O’Gorman, Kevin Cremin and John Corkery. A pair of points by Corkery and Jerry O’Connor were offset by duplicate scores at the opposite end by O’Keeffe and Evan Murphy.

Still Boherbue remained the most dangerous outfit, a pointed free by O’Connor divided the sides at the break 0-6 to 0-5. And a marvellous sideline from O’Connor gave Boherbue the perfect restart.

Dromtariffe found a new urgency, driven on by Jack Murphy, Conor Cremin, Seamus O’Sullivan and Adam Buckley.

And their hopes were raised from a pair of Daniel O’Keeffe points to secure parity. However the Boherbue response remained calm and assured, confirmed on a neatly constructed goal, O’Connor, the instigator for Tim Murphy to net.

Follow up points by Corkery and Kevin Cremin put Bohebue firmly in REFEREE: E Walsh (Freemount) the driving seat. Again Dromtariffe rallied and with Evan Murphy in excellent shooting form, they came within distance of closing the gap.

Critically Boherbue weathered the storm and found dry land after late points by O’Connor and Bryan Herlihy sealed the issue. BOHERBUE: K Murphy; D Moynihan, N Murphy, T Murphy 1-1; M O’Connor, M O’Gorman, C O’Riordan; K Cremin 0-1, B O’Gorman; P Murphy 0-2, J Corkery 0-2, A Guerin 0-1; J O’Connor 0-4 (2f, 1 s/l), A Murphy, R Moynihan 0-1.
