Sugrue tops in Lyre 4-Mile Road Race

BANTEER’S Eoin Sugrue picked up on an excellent fourth place performanc­e in the Cork City Marathon to land the inaugural Lyre 4-Mile Road Race.

On doing so, Duhallow AC linked up with Lyre Community Associatio­n to stage the third event in its Road Race Spring and Summer series. Taking first place was Sugrue in a time of 22 minutes 59 seconds followed by Declan Murphy and Dan O’Sullivan (Leevale).

Susan Looney (Duhallow) emerged top lady from Marguerite Murphy (Bweeing Blaze Trailers).

Duhallow AC Chairman Donie Shine expressed a huge thanks to everyone who made the race possible with proceeds supporting the Lyre playground.

“To date, we’re delighted with the response to the series of runs in Banteer, Knocknagre­e and Lyre with a terrific turn out of both juvenile and adult athletes. The staging take place monthly at a different venue and are a great promoter of the sport right across Duhallow,” he said.

Looking ahead, the Duhallow series continues in Castlemagn­er on Thursday, July 20; Lombardsto­wn, August 17 and a return to Banteer on Thursday, September 21 for the concluding race.

Millstreet AC commemorat­es a great legend of sport on their fifth annual staging of the Willie Neenan Memorial 5-mile Road Race on Friday, June 30 at 8.15pm preceded by a walk from 7.30pm.
