PLAYER RATINGS
Anthony Nash
Flawless between the sticks, his puck-outs were invariably well-measured, and his assurance in dealing with a few testing deliveries, along with his booming clearances, helped to squeeze the life out of Waterford’s challenge in the last quarter.
Stephen McDonnell
Made one or two mistakes, and was fortunate that Shane Bennett didn’t avail of a goal chance early in the second half, but he performed admirably overall.
Damien Cahalane
Followed up on a five-star display against Tipp’s Seamus Callanan with another commanding performance against Maurice Shanahan and a few other Waterford forwards who spent time in his company over the course of the game.
Colm Spillane
Came up against Austin Gleeson early on, he limited Waterford’s marquee player to just a point, and had been decent enough before picking up a second yellow card inside the last ten minutes.
Christopher Joyce
Didn’t stand out perhaps, but he delivered a competent display on the right flank of the Cork rearguard at the same time.
Mark Ellis
Is fast developing into one of the most accomplished centre-backs in the game, he was majestic at times last Sunday, chipping in with a fine point from distance in the first half.
Mark Coleman
Absolutely superb, he played an amount of ball, and his vision, composure and sheer artistry enabled him to use his possession to maximum effect. Converted a sideline and found space in the tightest of situations out on the left wing.
Bill Cooper
Lifted the team with his bone-crunching tackle on Kevin Moran in the second half, it capped a typical workmanlike contribution from the Youghal man, who won a great ball at the back to initiate a move that ended with Horgan pushing Cork 0-15 to 0-11.
Darragh Fitzgibbon
Scored a tasty point early on, he had his moments around the middle after that without making a sustained impact.
Luke Meade
Set Mark Ellis up for a point in the first half and fed Conor Lehane for another after the break, but he wasn’t involved a whole lot otherwise.
Conor Lehane
Proved quite a handful for Waterford centre back Tadgh De Burca, he finished with four points to his credit, all of which were out of the top drawer.
Shane Kingston
Slow to settle, he showed promise when switched to full forward for a spell in the first half, but, after shooting two wides, he faded from the picture again
Alan Cadogan
Received some rough treatment off the ball on occasions, and wasn’t brought into the play too often, but he paid his way when landing a point and winning a converted free in the last quarter.
Seamus Harnedy
Made life very uncomfortable for Waterford’s Shane Fives and Barry Couglan in turn, he was seen at his unstoppable best when moved to wing forward for the last 20 minutes. Winning possession virtually at will, he created numerous openings,
Patrick Horgan
Had the beating of Waterford’s renowned man-marker Noel Connors, it was a good day at the office for the Glen Rovers’ sharpshooter, who, unerring from frees, embellished his performance with a couple of fine points from play.
Subs
Michael Cahalane did very well, Daniel Kearney had some useful moments, Luke O’Farrell scored a good point, Brian Lawton and Dean Brosnan weren’t on long enough to lay down a marker.
