Close win for Milford over Ballymartyle in County IHC

MILFORD emerged winners over Ballymartle in County IHC at Mallow on Saturday. The sides were level 0-1 and 0-2 each after 5 minutes. Ballymartle hit the front and impressed all through the first half.
By the 11th minute they were 0-5 to 0-2 clear. Henry O’Gorman and Dan O’Leary were very accurate from frees. O’Leary landed another free that had Ballymartle ahead by double scores. In the 16th minute O’Leary made it 0-7 to 0-3.
James Linehan with a well placed puck-out found Sean O’Connell who parted Peter Kirwan who struck a very good point. Ballymartle goaled in the 19th minute by Jack Dwyer 1-7 to 0- 4. Both sides exchanged points by half time as Ballymartle led at the break 1-9 to 0- 6.
On the restart Dan O’Leary pointed another free. The Avondhu side had a goal by Anthony Watson. From here on Milford improved. Shane Cummins and Dan O’Leary added a point each for Ballymartle while Sean O’Connell and Henry O’Gorman replying holding the deficit to four points.
In the 40th minute O’Gorman pointed for Milford. Dan O’Leary replied. Sean O’Riordan set up Paddy O’Regan for a great point. Liam Corry replied 1-14 to 1-10 in the 46th minute. Two minutes later Anthony Watson had a great goal. Jack Dwyer replied with a point as Ballymartle led 1-15 to 2-10. They missed a few scoring chances with Milford getting within a point when Seanie O’Connell sent over.
Brian Villiers worked well for Henry O’Gorman who forced level. In the 54th minute Anthony Watson created a good chance that led to a lead point by Seanie O’Connell. Pa O’Dwyer forced level for Ballymartle. In the 58th minute Eoin Dillon with a long range point edged Milford in front.
Peter Kirwan pointed a free with Kirwan being provider for Brian Villiers who goaled in injury time 3-15 to 1-16. Ballymartle had a goal by Pa O’Dwyer deep in injury time.
