Kilworth impressive in victory over Kilshannig

KILWORTH took the points in this Cavanagh’s Fermoy Div 1 FL at Kilworth on Tuesday evening.

Exchanges were close all through with Kilworth holding a slight edge for most of the game. Brian Sheehan (free) and Kieran Lane opened with points for Kilworth. In the ninth minute Tadhg Twomey opened Kilshannig’s account.

Good play for Kilworth by Joe Aherne produced a point by James McCarthy. Brian Sheehan with a free opened up a three point lead. Kilshannig had a point by John Quinn after good play by Brian Guerin.

The Glantane side battled back well and points by Alan O’Connell and John Quinn levelled at 0-4 each. Kilworth struck a purple patch and four points in succession by Paddy Moakley, Brian Sheehan, Bob Allen, and James McCarthy had them well ahead 0-8 to 0-4.

Good play by Paddy Moakley led to a fine point by Justin Aherne. In the closing moments Tadhg Twomey and Dylan O’Callaghan pointed for Kilshannig. An injury time point by Justin Aherne had Kilworth leading 0-10 to 0- 6 at half-time.

The second half was very close and tense. Both defences were very solid and both sides had just two points each in this period. Good work early on by Diarmuid Twomey and Phelim O’Connell led to a fine point by Tadhg Twomey.

Justin Aherne replied soon after from a free. Kilshannig had their only other score a point in the 44th minute by Joseph Cronin. Kilworth defended well for the last quarter. They also had a pointed free by Brian Sheehan. In the end Kilworth were victors by a four point margin. Scorers
