Summer is breaking out all along the Lee Valley
SCHOOL’S OUT and summer is taking off along the Lee Valley and it looks like there’s going to be plenty to do for all the family over the coming few months.
They’re certainly under starter’s orders this evening (Thursday, June 22) for the eighth annual Daniel Kingston Memorial Run, which will hit the streets of the town at 8pm. Registration is at Macroom Sports Complex for this fun event that brings locals out onto the streets to cheer on those taking part.
Since Daniel passed away in 2009, from cancer, his family and friends have raised almost €200,000 for Cork ARC cancer support services, with about 800 people taking part in the Macroom town run each year.
Also worth noting: there’s a 5km run from Macroom Leisure Centre every Saturday at 9.30am throughout the summer and it’s free to join in.
There are a number of events taking place this Friday with Dromleigh National School hosting a bring and buy sale from 12 noon – maybe a chance to grab a bargain or two.
For animal lovers the Poulanargid Dog Show, in aid of the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind, will be held by Poulanargid Harrier Club at Kilmurry also this Friday from 7.30pm. As well as hosting judging classes for a wide variety of dogs there are also a range of fun, family-friendly events lined up. These include fun games such as Clock Golf, Timber Maggie, Milk the Cow, the Ladder Game ... and much more.
There’s also plenty of stalls selling bric a brac, cakes and jams, flowers and plants
