IMPROVISED SOAP OPERA AT CORK ARTS THEATRE

The hilarious Comedy Improvised group will be returning to Cork tonight to perform at Cork Arts Theatre from 8pm.

The group, who were previously in the county for their Comedy Improvised Halloween Murder Mystery and are now set to lampoon soap opera’s.

The group, which features Dominic McHale from The Young Offenders and Laura O’Mahony from RTE, will have no script to fall back on during the performanc­e and they will be reliant on nothing more than their bonkers imaginatio­n. The audience will also provide them with hilarious secrets about each character throughout to keep them on their toes.

ART EXHIBITION AT ST. PETERS

St. Peters in Cork will be hosting a series of new works by artist Mary Cooke today from 10am.

The Landscape of Saved Memories is an art exhibition that focuses on the biological and chemical makeup of people, with works including the structure of dna and the makeup of the brain.

Other works on display by Cooke are a series of works which focus on familiar themes such as family and the home.

Cooke is an artist who’s works reach across a wide array of different subjects and this acclaimed showcase is the latest example of her works.

Free entry all day.

PECULIAR CHARACTERS AT THE EVERYMAN

The acclaimed play Futureproo­f comes to the Everyman theatre Thursday(tonight) from 8pm.

Centred around a travelling freak show including a hermaphrod­ite, an armless bearded lady, the world’s fattest man and siamese twins, the story focuses on the decreasing popularity of such shows and the effects that has on the main characters, who have no other means then to display their irregulari­ties to the public.

Coming to Everyman as part of the Cork Midsummer Festival, the play sees writer Lynda Radley and director Tom Creed return to their old stomping ground for this critically lauded production.

A CELEBRATIO­N OF CORK OPERA HOUSE

Cork Opera House will play host to Tom Lane’s Front of House this Friday through to Sunday.

The opera, from the award winning production of Flatpack, will transform the public areas of Cork Opera House into a unique performanc­e space where they will present a unique insight into one of Cork’s best loved performanc­e venues.

Performed by Majella Cullagh, Kelly Lonergan, Carolyn Goodwin, Alex Petcu and Emma Nash, this performanc­e is part of the Cork Midsummer Festival and will be a unique performanc­e celebratin­g the best of the Opera House.

A TASTE OF THE BLUES AT COUGHLANS

Cork singer songwriter Clare O’Mahony will be paying tribute to the iconic Joni Mitchell Friday night at Coughlans.

Clare, a local singer who was heavily influenced by Mitchell’s work, will be playing a selection of her favourite songs, from her earlier albums such as Clouds all the way to her most recent recordings in A Case for You.

Mitchell is regarded as one of the finest female artists of her time, generating critical success in a time where many female performers were known for there sex appeal instead of their voice.

CIT TO THE MOON AND BACK

As part of the Cork Midsummer Festival, Nexus Hall CIT will be showcasing an exhibition of the moon this Friday from 9am.

In recent years, Cork’s role in space has grown dramatical­ly, hosting a series of space events, as well as hosting a talk by Buzz Aldrin later this week.

This exhibition is part of an internatio­nal touring installati­on of the moon measuring seven metres in diameter and showcasing in vivid detail the moons lunar surface.

The exhibition has something to offer all ages from children to adults and is free to the public.

TOMMY TIERNAN LIVE AT THE MARQUEE

As part of the Summer at the Marquee series, Tommy Tiernan will be performing his hilarious Under The Influence show this Saturday from 8pm.

One of Ireland’s most popular comedians, Tiernan has been aq controvers­ial figure down through the years due to the taboo topics discussed in his comedy routines, however, he has remained people’s go to comedian for laugh out loud comedy and outrageous comedy bits.

Under The Influence pokes fun at everything from the current political climate to bus conductors in a show that critics are calling one of Tiernan’s best shows.

CONTEMPORA­RY FOLK BAND NEW ALBUM GIG

Contempora­ry folk band Ranagri will be taking to the stage at Coughlans on Sunday night to perform a selection of songs from their new album.

Consisting of flutes, Irish whistles, electric harps, bodhrans and electric guitars, this Irish group consist of four Irish musicians seamlessly blend contempora­ry songwritin­g with celtic folk music to produce a unique sound.

Having secured a record contract from grammy winning record label Stockfisch, the group have been touring festivals and collaborat­ed with internatio­nal star Tony Christie and have been praised by the BBC as an act to look out for.

CEILI AT THE CRANE LANE THEATRE

An Irish dance class will take place Monday night at the Crane Lane Theatre for those who want to learn to dance the ceili.

The classes, which don’t require any prior experience or even a dance partner, have been growing in popularity in recent years as people have flocked to classes to rid themselves of their two left feet.

The classes also serve as a great social evening where people can immerse themselves in Irish culture and meet people from around Cork, as well as taking part in the enjoyable exercise you’ll ever do.

WALKING ON CARS COME TO THE MARQUEE

One of Irelands most popular groups, Walking on Cars, will be performing at the Marquee Monday at 8pm.

The indie band, who hail from Dingle, have enjoyed a huge amount of success since the release of their single Catch Me if You Can in 2013.

The group have followed up on that success with hit singles such as Speeding Cars and Always be With You, which have all performed well on the charts.

The group have enjoyed enormous success since then, becoming one of Ireland’s most popular live acts, regularly selling out Ireland’s top music venues, including the 3 Arena and the INEC.
