KANTURK Cub Scouts had a wonderful weekend’s camping at Ballyhass Lakes as part of the North Region Cub Summer Camp 2017.

Twenty three Cubs from Kanturk arrived at Ballyhass Lakes as part of a 200 strong Cub Scout group to participate in a fun packed weekend. Arriving on Friday evening after school, the Cubs were delighted that some of the leaders had some tents already pitched.

After finishing their campsite the Cubs went around to the other sites to make friends. The camp was officially opened by the camp chief, Niamh, and everyone passed around friendship bracelets and tokens as part of the friendship theme before returning to camp for tea and light supper.

Saturday morning started at 5am, when the sprightly Cubs had breakfast, prepared their campsite and made their lunch before heading off for the business of zip wiring, abseiling, kayaking and archery. The Ballyhass team were fantastic with all the groups. After a scrumptious supper, the tired cubs had time to relax and chill with their new friends before the campfire, always a highlight of camping trips.

The Kanturk Cubs demonstrated their drama and singing skills to everyone’s delight.

The highlight of Sunday was the new aqua park. It was such a thrill for the Cubs to compete in group challenges and cool off in the water. Thankfully, the weather held out for the camp and the Cub leaders had great help in dropping the dry tents for the parents to take back to Kanturk.

Tired but happy, the Cubs gave a big cheer to their leaders for all the hard work over the weekend.
