POPULAR Charleville Cllr. Ian Doyle (FF) was elected to the position of Deputy Mayor of County Cork to Mayor Cllr. Declan Hurley (Ind) of Dunmanway, who succeeded Cllr Seamus McGrath at the annual general meeting of Cork County Council at County Hall on last Friday.

Cllr Doyle, who was elected unopposed, was proposed by his party colleague Cllr Frank O’Flynn and seconded by Cllr Timmy Collins (Ind). In his acceptance speech Cllr Doyle congratulated Cllr Hurley on his election to the mayoral position. For his own part he said he was proud and privileged to represent the people of North Cork and also to represent Cork County Council in the Municipal District of Fermoy.

He thanked his colleague Frank O’Flynn for proposing him as Deputy Mayor and Cllr Timmy Collins for seconding him and the Independent Group, Fine Gael and Sinn Fein for supporting the proposal and to everybody in the chamber for their support and friendship over the past three years since his election in 2014, including the executive and council staff members.

Cllr Doyle pledged his support to Mayor Hurley in whatever capacity he is called on to perform over the duration of his tenure. “Together we will promote Cork County Council and Cork County over the next 12 months,” he said.

Present in the chamber to see him elected was his wife, Angie, and daughter, Aoife.
