Kilbrin and Argideen Rangers seek out fourth county JBFC title

-

THE clash of Kilbrin and Argideen Rangers arouses interest in the Co. Junior B Football Championship Final at Pairc Uí Rinn on this Friday evening.

Interestingly, both clubs hold a strong hurling backgrounds yet the pair come well equipped in terms of football pedigree, evident from Kilbrin and Argideen holding three Co. JBFC titles apiece in their respective rolls of honour.

Kibrin landed their initial title in 1985 on getting past Kilworth before accounting for Carrig na bFear(96) and followed up to better Rathluirc Rovers in 2010. That all North Cork final clash against the Charleville side produced a close and engaging affair where Kilbrin were required to rally strongly in the second half to overcome a deficit and fend off the challenge of the Avondhu hopefuls in the closing stages.

From the current campaign, Kilbrin overcame Lismire, their progress continued to sweep past Deel Rovers and Grange in convincing fashion with Paudie O’Callaghan, Evan Murphy, Niall Field and Stephen O’Reilly to the fore.

For their part, Argideen Rangers are no strangers to county honours, the Timoleague based outfit have enjoyed productive innings against Avondhu clubs over the years to collect outright honours from Killavullen(1993), Ballyhooly(2001) and Araglen(2008).

Argideen’s current campaign earned wins against Rathpeacon and Whitechurch before holding off a rousing challenge from Goleen by a single point in the all Carbery semi final where John Michael O’Callaghan, John Sheehan, Bill Fleming and Finbarr Butler stood out.

At the outset of the campaign, Argideen were spoken of potential champions and if they click into gear, they will be difficult to halt. A county final promises to be a tight affair and its for certain that Kilbrin will strive might and main in search of the accolades and if they play to their undoubted potential, they are capable of regaining the silverware.
