Stalemate between Ballygibli­n and Gaels

Ballygibli­n 3-10 Liscarroll/Churchtown 3-10

BALLYGIBLI­N and Liscarroll/ Churchtown Gaels shared the spoils in a high scoring Division 3 HL encounter at Ballygibli­n on Wednesday.

The opening stages saw the sides level at 0-1 each when Peter Crowley and Tom Daly traded an early point. Ballygibli­n moved in front when Liam O’Gorman pointed. Liscarroll/ Churchtown Gaels hit the front when a good solo run by Damian O’Brien resulted in Diarmuid Fisher finishing to the net. However for the rest of this half Ballygibli­n dominated with Paddy Kelly, Jack Lewis, Liam O’Gorman, Paul Kearney, Tom Daly, Jack Norris and Tadgh Finn doing very well.

In the ninth minute a sideline cut by Paul Kearney went all the way to the net and it was immediatel­y followed with points from Kearney, Robert Frewen and Liam O’Gorman to move into a 1-6 to 1-1 lead. The home side increased their advantage in the 19th minute when Diarmuid Noonan placed Ger O’Keeffe for a great goal. In the closing moments a third goal courtesy of Tom Daly helped them hold a commanding 3-8 to 1-4 lead at the interval.

On the changeover Liscarroll/ Churchtown Gaels came out a much improved side with Dwane Sheehan, James Kelly, Peter Crowley, Sean Healy, Alan O’Brien, Michael O’Halloran, Damian O’Brien and Diarmuid Fisher to the fore. They got off to a dream start when Peter Crowley billowed a penalty to the net in the 35th minute. At the end of the third quarter they had the lead down to three points when in arrears 3-9 to 2-9.

Ballygibli­n had their last score of the game in the 51st minute when Liam O’Gorman pointed. Liscarroll/Churchtown Gaels who created most of the scoring chances in this half refused to yield. In the 54th minute Michael O’Halloran closed the deficit before a good movement three minutes later saw Sean Healy score a great goal from a very difficult angle that ensured the teams finished on level terms.
