GOLDEN BOYS AT MIDSUMMER FESTIVAL

Ger Wolfe and The New Skylarks will be performing their new single “The Golden Boys” Thursday night (tonight) at L’ atitude as part of Cork Midsummer Festival.

Ger will be joined by his full band featuring Edel Sullivan on violin, Paul Frost on double bass and Martin Leahy on drums, where they also perform some of their better known singles.

Ger has been described as an artist with a timeless quality who cannot be pinned down to one genre or style.

COURTROOM AT ARTS THEATRE

One of Ireland’s most renowned playwright­s, John Mortimer, will be staging a production of his highly acclaimed plays, The Dock Brief, at the Cork Arts Theatre on Thursday from 12.30pm.

The humorous play will star John Morgan and David Moore, where a theatrical lawyer attempts to convince a prisoner of his ability to defend him. With his life in the balance, the prisoner must decide whether to put his faith in the brash lawyer and risk losing his case. Tickets €10 from 021 450 5624.

GROTESQUE COMEDY

The Triskel Arts Centre will be playing the 1970 classic Multiple Maniacs this Thursday June 29th at 9pm.

This gloriously grotesque comedy features the Cavalcade of Perversion, a travelling show mounted by a troupe of misfits whose shocking procliviti­es are topped only by those of their leader, Divine.

When Divine finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her, she descends into a life of murder and mayhem in this hilarious horror/comedy.

Considered a cult classic, this movie has influenced an entire genre of movies.

INDIE SOUNDS AT COUGHLANS

Cork based indie performer Dan O’Keeffe will be performing at Coughlans Friday night at 9pm.

With a genuine passion for songwritin­g and lively melodies, Dan has been raising his profile in recent months with a series of unique, lively performanc­es.

Dan’s musical style has drawn inspiratio­n and comparison with such acts as Jeff Buckley, Kings of Leon and Radiohead.

Dan’s star has risen over the last year, becoming a regular tourer, particular around the Cork music. Tickets €8 at the door.

MUSIC AND BEER AT THE BIG SHED

Ballymaloe Grainstore have announced their first ever Ballymaloe Malt and Music weekend for this weekend, Friday to Sunday.

Held under the shelter of the Big Shed of Ballymaloe House, the weekend will feature some of Ireland’s top acts, with Little Green Cars and Jerry Fish headlining the show.

Other acts performing a the music weekend will include Hurricane Highway, whose latest album hit number one on the country charts, RnB band Shookrah, soul act The Niall McCabe band and many more.

J90 RETURNS TO REARDANS

One of Ireland’s favourite performing bands, J90, will be playing a free gig this Friday at Reardan’s from 10.30pm.

J90 are a band who incorporat­e the huge popularity of the club scene and the ever changing world of rock and pop to create an act that sets the bar for live bands.

Performing a wide range of songs, from classic rock and pop to up to the minute chart hits including Ed Sheeran.

The group have also enjoyed success with their own songs which have airplay across the country.

CORONAS LIVE AT THE MARQUEE

The Coronas will be performing Live at the Marquee Friday night at 8pm.

One of Ireland’s most successful bands, the band have performed across the world, playing their biggest hits such as The San Diego Song and Heroes or Ghosts.

The group have performed in Ireland’s biggest venues, including Croke Park, Oxegen, RDS Arena, Olympia Theatre as well as the College Green for Barack Obama’s state visit in 2011.

Having also performed across Europe and North America, the band is one of Ireland’s most experience­d live acts and are renowned for their energetic performanc­es.

TRANSATLAN­TIC SOUL AT CONNOLLY’S

The Niall McCabe band will be taking to the stage at Connolly’s of Leap this Sunday night from 8pm.

Originatin­g from a small island off the coast, The Niall McCabe band have honed their sound which is structures on the roots of soul music and equal parts rock and folk, which the band have dubbed to be Transatlan­tic Soul.

The group, fronted by Niall McCabe, has been doing the rounds on the Irish touring circuit and have gained a small cult follwing with their unique blend of genres. Tickets €12

TOP NIGHTS AT THE GLENEAGLE

THE summer cabaret season will continue at the Gleneagle Ballroom in Killarney over the coming week with a packed line-up featuring a hosts of top names from the Irish entertainm­ent industry.

On Saturday night Ronan Collins will bring his Showband Show to the venue reliving the golden era of Irish music with performanc­es by Keith and Lorraine McDonald, Karen Black and the Sugarcubes. Into next week and on Monday evening world renowned hypnotist and comedian Adrian Knight will thrill audiences at the venue, with his unique style and showmanshi­p.

Over the following three nights the Gleneagle will host concerts by three of Ireland’s top singers, Brendan Shine (Tues), Mike Denver ( Weds) and Red Hurley (Thurs).

JOHN SPILLANE AT DE BARRAS

CORK’S favourite musical son, the inimitable John Spillane, will be back on home turf next Thursday night for gig at De Barras Folk Club in Clonakilty.

His gigs are always very special occasions as Spillane treats guests to well known ditties and new songs .
