- BILL BROWNE

THE second public consultation meeting being held to discuss a dedicated heritage plan for the Múscrai Gaeltacht will take place tonight (Thursday) at 6.30pm in Beal Átha’n Ghaothaidh GAA Clubhouse.

Over recent months Cork County Council, in conjunction with Research and Dig and Acadamh Fódhla, have been undertaking the drawing up of a conservation, management and interpretation plan for the region.

Conor Nelligan, heritage officer with Cork County Council, said the aim of the project was to look at the importance of the Múscrai Gaeltacht and how its rich and vibrant heritage can be safeguarded and promoted into the future.

“Through a process of extensive consultation, the project has examined in a holistic manner the wonderful heritage the area possesses. In addition, it has identified a number of actions that could be implemented in order to protect and promote this heritage,” said Mr Nelligan.

He said a draft copy of the plan has been prepared and can be viewed by following the link on the heritage page at www.corkcoco.ie.

“The purpose of tonight’s meeting is to give members of the public the opportunity to discuss elements of the draft plan with its authors and air their views on its contents. All are welcome to attend and officials will be on hand to answer questions and take on board any comments or suggestions,” said Mr Nelligan.

“For those whole may be unable to attend tonight’s meeting, comments and suggestions on the draft plan can be emailed to cork. heritage@corkcoco.ie by Monday, July 24,” he added.
