COUNTRY ICON AT TRISKEL

Jim Lauderdale will be playing at the Triskel Arts Centre this Friday at 8pm.

Lauderdale is a multi Grammy award winning singer songwriter who has written songs for some of the best known acts in the world, including Elvis Costello and the The Dixie Chicks.

Having performed for over 30 years in the music industry, Lauderdale has performed on some of the biggest stages in music, including hosting the Americana Music Awards after winning artist of the year award in 2002.

Often referred to as a singers singer, this is a show not to be missed.

MEMPHIS BLUES AT CONNOLLY’S

Memphis musician Valerie Jones will be performing at Connolly’s of Leap on Friday night as part of her upcoming European tour.

The blues singer has achieved moderate success in the States, with her debut 2013 album, Pushin’ Against a Stone charting in the top 40.

A regular tourer, Jones has achieved acclaim for her live performanc­es and has supported acts such as The Black Keys and Jake Bugg.

Her sophomore album, The Order of Time, has just been released and Jones will be travelling around Europe promoting it.

CHRISTY MOORE AT THE MARQUEE

Christy Moore will be the latest act to perform at the Live at the Marquee series Friday night from 8pm.

Voted as Ireland’s greatest ever artist, Moore has become a staple of Ireland’s biggest venues, regularly touring across Ireland.

Having released an incredible 37 albums, 29 of which were solo, the trad singer possesses a huge catalogue of songs, including classics such as Ordinary Man, The Voyage and arguably his most famous song, Joxer Goes to Stuttgart, which has become synonymous with Euro 88’.

CORK UP AND COMER AT SIRIUS

Local singer songwriter Nicole Maguire will be taking to the stage at the Sirius Arts Centre Friday night at 8pm.

Nicole’s new album ‘Wishing Well’ has been making waves internatio­nal and she has worked with some of the top producers in the world, such as Mitchell Froom, who has worked with Pearl Jam. Nicole has been on a whirlwind journey as of late, taking to the stage with many of her musical heroes such as Glen Hansard, Mundy and American legend Don McLean.

Her music has been featured in Hollywood films and many are expecting Nicole’s name to soon be up in lights.

UKULELES AT WHITE HORSE

The West Cork Ukulele Orchestra will be performing at the White Horse Ballincoll­ig Friday at 8.30pm.

The unusual nine piece group came together and have enjoyed extraordin­ary success, performing for the President and appearing on the Late Late Show with their quirky and sometimes humorous performanc­es.

Armed with only their ukuleles, they perform playful versions of classic songs and their arrangemen­ts are as inventive as they are irreverent.

The group from Clonakilty have played throughout Cork and Ireland and have gained somewhat of a small cult following in the process.

COMEDY AT THE EVERYMAN

The Glen Theatre group will be returning to the Everyman Friday night, bringing a production of their new comedy, Second Honeymoon.

This hilarious play features an ensemble of wildly different characters who converge on a seaside guest house, including a prim and proper lady, her flirty servant Vera, newly weds Stephen and Sally as well as Agnes and Frank, who are celebratin­g their 25th wedding anniversar­y.

Both couples relationsh­ips are put to the test upon upon seeing each others marriages in this light hearted play.

SPECTACULA­R FEST IN STORE

Ireland’s largest summer festival, City Spectacula­r, will be in Cork Saturday and Sunday in Fitzgerald’s Park.

This free festival will showcase the best street performers, family activities and street food from around the world as well as live music and other activities.

With its very own children’s area, this festival is a family friendly event with something for everyone to enjoy, including a Kid Court, where children can put their parent on trial and sentence them to a pie in the face as punishment.

HIGH KINGS AT THE INEC

The High Kings will be performing at the INEC Killarney this Sunday at 8.30pm.

From their inception in 2008, the High Kings have taken over as heirs to the throne for folk music, becoming a hugely successful act not just in Ireland, but across the world, selling out arenas regularly in the US, Britain and Germany to name but a few.

PUNK LEGEND AT CRANE LANE

Punk rock icon Lol Tolhurst will be playing at the Crane Lane Theatre with his band Fire in Cairo on Wednesday.

Tolhurst was part of the original line up of legendary group The Cure during their heyday between 1976-1982.

As the groups drummer, Tolhurst performed some of the most iconic songs of all time, including th classic Just Like Heaven and Boys Don’t Cry.

After splitting from the group in 1982, he joined up with the original lineup in 1982 and embarked on a world tour.

Tolhurst continues to tour, performing the classics that made him a household name.

FLEADH CHEOIL 2017 ARRIVES

Fleadh Cheoil Na Mumhan 2017 is kicking off it’s annual festival this week in multiple venues across Cork.

Munster’s premier Festival of traditiona­l Irish music, the festival presents the best of traditiona­l Ireland, ranging from singing, a vast variety of instrument­al competitio­ns, dancing and storytelli­ng.

The festival sees Irelan’s best trad performers converging on Cork hoping to earn a place at the 2017 All Ireland Fleadh in Ennis.
