‘Indie’ organisers busy building Cork’s fourth biggest town

- BILL BROWNE

PREPARATIONS are well under way for the 2017 Indiependence Music and Arts Festival, with organisers advising that day tickets for the event are already in short supply.

With the quota of weekend camping tickets selling-out in record time, only a limited number of day tickets are available for the August bank-holiday extravaganza at Deer Park.

Indie co-founder and organiser Shane Dunne said that he expected the remaining tickets will also sell-out rapidly, warning people not to delay buying theirs if they do not want to miss out.

“We are really looking forward to this year’s Indie, with preparations already ongoing at the festival site. Next week, we will begin work in earnest to transform the site into what will, temporarily at least, become Cork’s fourth biggest town in terms of population size for the weekend,” said Shane.

“For the first time we will also be running a coach service to take weekend and day tickets holders to Deer Park from Cork City over the course of the festival. Details of the service are available at www.concerttravel.com,” he added.

Now in its 12th year, ‘Indie’ has developed from humble beginnings in the Town Square into one of Ireland’s top music festivals, with people travelling from all over Ireland and across Europe to savour its unique flavour and special atmosphere.

Headline acts set to grace the Indie main stage will include Tom Odell, The Coronas and Manic Street Preachers with a clutch of other tops names including All Tvvins, Sigma (DJ), Frank Turner, Hermitage Green, Brian Deady, The Riptide Movement and We Cut Corners also featuring on the impressive bill.

A new feature will be the IMRO Big Top stage featuring rising Irish artist including Raglans, Fang Club, Talos, MindRiot and Jack O’Rourke, in addition to tried and trusted favourites such as the comedy and spoken word and the Orchard Thieves stages, the latter featuring a host of top Irish DJ’s.

Further line-up announcements, including the Heineken Live Your Music Stage, will be made over the coming days.

Meanwhile, Shane has said that attendees can expect an increased security and Garda presence, with increased searches at entry points.

“So please allow a little extra time to get onto the site. This is for the safety of all and we hope that it makes people feel safe and able to fully enjoy their time at Indiependence,” he said.

Day tickets are available online at www.tickets. ie with a limited number also available at the Mitchelstown Post Office.
