Credit union to the rescue to keep Tidy Towns on the road

-

MALLOW Tidy Towns recently sent out an appeal to the community requesting some help with the repair and running costs of their van, as without such transport MTT would be grounded.

The loss of the van would mean they would not have the means to water and maintain the numerous hanging baskets and flowerbeds throughout the urban area.

Recognising the difficulty, Mallow Credit Union responded immediately to the appeal and provided a most generous donation, which ensured that MTT is back on the road.

Mallow Credit Union is a reliable and consistent supporter of MTT as it has sponsored many MTT projects in the past and will hopefully continue to do so for the future. It should be noted that Mallow Credit Union is the only financial service in the town which supports MTT on a regular basis.

Appropriately, the presentation took place on Saturday at the Gilbert Centre Rock Garden while MTT volunteers were doing some additional planting. Mr John Hewitt, Mallow Credit Union, presented the cheque to Mrs. Eileen (Bubbles) Gyves, treasurer of Mallow Tidy Towns.

While many Mallow town folk are still sleeping, MTT and, in particular, Tommy Collins is out watering all the various sites three times a week. Without that regular watering and especially in the current warm weather most of the flower displays would have turned into a wilderness.

In addition to the watering plan, MTT volunteers are out weeding and maintaining the beds, ensuring that they look their best for the community and visitors alike.

As well as their project work, other MTT volunteers as well as the Mallow Traders Adopt A Patch Group and a long list of residential groups and individuals are doing their part to keep the town litter free, for which the MTT group are most grateful.
