A step back in time as Castletownroche basks in sunshine

Castletownroche could have been mistaken for the Costa del Sol on Sunday as temperatures hovering in the mid twenties saw visitors from all over Munster and further afield enjoy the sun and fun at the annual Vintage Rally and Family Day.

Indeed, many took advantage of rising mercury and brought along camping seats and deck chairs to soak up the rays while simultaneously enjoying the unique atmosphere that is always prevalent at the rally.

There was great interest in the working demonstrations of threshing, reaping and binding, baling, and silage cutting, as well as the exhibitions of ploughing, harrowing, and planting which are all an integral part of the agricultural year.

The vintage section was a hive of activity with owners proudly displaying cars, tractors, bikes, and engines which have been lovingly restored to their former grandeur.

The children meanwhile were kept entertained throughout with McCormack’s Amusements and visits to the animal corner while entire families took to the skies courtesy of Pleasure Rides by Executive Helicopters.

Chairperson Billy Sheehan, speaking to The Corkman, said that organisers were really pleased with the attendance, he thanked everyone who attended, and all those who helped out on the day and with the preparations beforehand.
