Mallow M20 meetings
MALLOW Chamber will host two meetings this week to discuss the contents Indecon/ report into the viability of the M20, which said the route could generate up to €128 million for the local economy.
Commissioned jointly by Cork and Limericks Chambers, ‘Gearing up for the M20’ said the proposed 80km stretch of motorway would have the capacity to create 5,400 jobs and would “enable a balanced economic development on a scale not seen before in Ireland.”
Mallow Chamber president Sean Lynch said the report, also included contributions relating to Mallow by local architect Kevin O’Keeffe.
“We are delighted that members of the Cork Chamber Policy Group, which was heavily involved in the writing of the report, will present their findings at the two meetings that we will be co-hosting.”
The first of these will be with Mallow Rotary on Thursday afternoon and due to space restrictions is only open to Mallow Chamber members.
A breakfast briefing, in conjunction with the North Cork Business Alliance, will take place on Friday morning in the Hibernian Hotel from 7.30am until 8.30am. The €5 admission fee includes a full Irish breakfast. Booking through info@mallowchamber.ie or by leaving a message at 022 55660 is essential.
Mr Lynch said it was vital that as many people as possible were up to speed in relation to plans for the M20.
“It is also essential that everyone lobbies their politicians and keeps this issue in the public eye,” he said.
“It is also important to note that the alternative route though Mitchelstown would be detrimental for the south west of Ireland in terms of infrastructure, tourism and the ability to attract large firms into the area,” he added.
