Stage is set for summer seisiúin series in Freemount
THE annual feats of Irish traditional music, song and dance that is the annual seisiún series began at Freemount’s heritage centre on last Wednesday night when their special guest artist for the evening was Freemount native and story teller Frances Curtin Kennedy, who is now resident in Listowel, Co. Kerry.
Ms Curtin Kennedy regaled the capacity audience with her hilarious stories and reminiscing on her school days in Freemount.
The chief organiser of the annual series P. J. O’Sullivan was delighted with the first night attendance and said they will have a special guest artist every Wednesday night until August 30.
“We have the inimitable Séan Ó Se here this week and he will be followed by the Castlemagner Singers on July 26, our own Elle Marie O’Dwyer, who is an All-Ireland champion singer, is on stage on August 2 with Billy O’Brien on August 9 and that brilliant singing group Wild Oats on August 16,” said PJ. “Freemount’s Adrian McAuliffe and John McNulty are on the penultimate night of the seisiun and the senior musicians of Craobh An Rath Comhaltas group bring the series to an end for this on August 30.”
All of the above are in addition to the home-grown musicians, singers and dancers for whom Freemount is famous, including the wonderful balladeer John Murphy, plus the interval cup of tea provided by a wonderful team of ladies, which is all included in the admission fee.
Freemount is the place to be on Wednesday nights during July and August if you want to hear the cream of Irish traditional music and entertainment.
