Muskerry football championship takes centre stage
THE Muskerry Ross Oil Junior Football Championship will be very much centre stage in the division over the coming days. With third round games arranged from this Thursday evening until Monday next. Ten teams still remain in the race at the time of writing and all those contestants have displayed potential in the outings that have qualified them to be still interested in the Muskerry Division’s most exciting championship.
This evening’s encounter which arranged for Kilmichael’s headquarters at Annahala will involve the second choice adult football squads of Ballincollig and Beal Athan Ghaorthaidh and I would expect these two sides to produce an entertaining hour’s play. Last season the sides contested the first round of the competition and it took two hours to get a result following very entertaining fare. Ballincollig won eventually but there was never a question of their displaying, a significant dominance, and this evening’s game will again be closely contested.
On tomorrow Friday at Macroom the favoured team for outright success Kilmurry will be expected to have the edge on Aghinagh. The former who are reigning champions look exceptionally strong at the moment with members of their talented under 21 team ready, willing and able to play their part in enabling their top team make championship progress. Aghinagh gave a spirited performance when they secured a first round victory over Inniscarra and they will not bow out without a good fight but Kilmurry must get the vote to advance.
On Sunday afternoon at Kilmurry Iveleary will be expected to overcome the challenge of Eire Óg’s second choice squad. The latter have a lot of footballers but Iveleary have some very talented players in their ranks. The likes of Cathal Vaughan and Chris Óg Jones could be to the forefront of their quest for victory and they should surmount the Eire Óg challenge.
On Sunday evening at Macroom Canovee who impressed in their recent victory over Dripsey are likely to have too much strength in depth for Clondrohid while the final game of series is arranged for Coachford on Monday evening.
Donoughmore and Kilmichael will contest same and there would not be lot to choose between the sides. The latter displayed good from in their recent back door outing and players like Peter Kelleher, Simon Foley, Daniel Twomey and Conor Cotter could be to the forefront in seeing them over the line.
