Holders Kilbrin face Newmarket to remain in JAHC race

-

A KEY round 3 contest in the Kanturk Co-Op Mart Duhallow Junior A Hurling Championship promises the prospect of an engaging contest between defending champions Kilbrin and Newmarket in Freemount on Tuesday evening.

Both sides seek an improvement on hugely disappointing reversals in the last outings.

Kilbrin were short of their best on a defeat to Banteer in their lone outing to date. On that occasion, Banteer had a determined motivation to erase the memories of some below par performances in deciders in recent years.

Indeed Kilbrin couldn’t compete against the energetic and enterprising efforts of their opponents and might well had trailed by more than six points at the break. And though Banteer extended their position on the restart, Kilbrin crept back into contention through the workrate of Tom O’Reilly, Cillian Buttimer, Daniel Sheahan and Stephen O’Reilly to come within a score yet they failed to overturn the deficit, no complaints from the reigning holders.

Newmarket accounted for Kanturk first time out yet they had for reflection after failing to build from a seven point advantage against Dromtariffe who stormed back to offer a superior first touch and wrestle the initiative.

Newmarket had exerted an early influence through the workrate of Gavin Forde, Alan Ryan, Jack Guiney, Donal Hannon and Conor O’Keeffe yet they failed to sustain the momentum.

With two skilful sides on duty, this is the last throw of the dice for both teams. No quarter will be asked or given in this contest but with the expected return of county player William Egan, Kilbrin may shade the outcome.
