BUTTEVANT maintained their 100% record in the Cavanagh’s Fermoy Ford League when they had six points to spare over Kilshannig in the semi-final Division 1 FL at Ballyclough on Saturday evening.

The winners gained control early on and they were well on top in the first half. Kilshannig lost key midfielder Killian O’Hanlon to injury. Buttevant opened with an early pointed free by Kevin Lenahan.

Good play in the seventh minute by David Walsh and John O’Neill led to a well taken goal by Seamus Madigan. Further pressure yielded a point by Denis O’Connell after good play by Anthony O’Neill.

They missed a few chances with Kevin Lenahan with a free opening up a nine-point lead 2-3 to 0-0. In the closing moments good play for the winners by Tadhg Healy to Seamus Madigan led to fine point by Denis O’Connell.

Play was held up for a while due to an injury to Alan O’Connell. In the 33rd minute Kilshannig had their opening score a pointed free by Tony Kelly. Deep in injury time John O’Neill and Tadhg Healy worked well for Kevin Lenahan to point. Colm O’Dea was denied a certain goal when Ronan Donovan saved very well. Kilshannig introduced a number of substitutes on the restart. They did very well but the 11 point gap was just too much. Patrick Cronin had a brilliant point with Tadhg O’Sullivan pointing after good play by Conor Casey, Dermot Twomey and Michael Twomey.

Kevin Lenahan kicked another pointed free before Kevin McMahon placed Jack Kearney for a great goal. Tadhg O’Sullivan added a quick point and the lead was down to six points 2-7 to 1-4. Tadhg O’Sullivan added two points by the 48th minute 2-7 to 1-6. Kilshannig had three wides in quick succession.
