-

Kilshannig 4-16 Charleville 1-8

A powerful second half display by Kilshannig saw them sweep aside the challenge by Charleville at Mallow last evening. The opening stages saw Charleville start at a hectic pace having early scores by Darren Butler and Mark Kavanagh to move into a 0-2 to no score lead.

Kilshannig had to wait till the eight minute to register their first score by Frank McCarthy and they hit the front four minutes later when a delivery by Joseph Cronin was gathered by Jack Kearney who cut inside the Charleville defence to score a fine goal 1-1 to 0-2.

At this stage Kilshannig were creating most of the running with their half-back line trio of Jack Twomey, Roddy O’Mahony and Brian Guerin driving forward at every opportunity.

They reeled off the next three points to move 1-4 to 0-2 ahead by the 22nd minute. For the rest of the half Charleville staged a good fightback with Darren Casey, Mark Kavanagh, James Kennedy and Darren Butler involved in most of their attacks.

Points by Darren Casey and Cathal O’Carroll narrowed the deficit to 1-4 to 0-4 by the 28th minute. In the closing moments both teams traded a point by Michael Twomey and Darren Butler as a goal separated the teams at the interval.

On the changeover the winners gained total control from the offset with Killian O’Hanlon and Cillian Murphy commanding figures at midfield. In attack Darragh O’Sullivan was in splendid form in the half forward line.

In the 35th minute substitutes Tadhg O’Sullivan and Phelim O’Connell linked up well for Alan O’Connell to finish to the net. Over the next couple of minutes some well taken points by Darragh O’Sullivan (3) and Killian O’Hanlon moved them 2-10 to 0-6 in front before Jack Kearney was on hand to score their third goal at the mid way stage 3-10 to 0-6.

Moments later Killian O’Hanlon drilled an unstoppable shot to the Charleville net as they moved 4-10 to 0-6 in front. The last quarter was merely going through the motions. Kilshannig added six more points to their tally while Charleville who battled to the end added 1-2 their goal by Jack O’Callaghan, there was no denying Kilshannig their comprehensive victory.
