Dromina 3-21 Doneraile 3-8

A DOMINANT second half performance by Dromina set them up for a quarter-final meeting against defending Hibernian Hotel JAHC kingpins Harbour Rovers after they ran out worthy winners over Doneraile at Charleville on Saturday.

In a keenly contested first half Dromina laid an early marker with David Jones (2) Pat Hayes and James O’Shaughnessy having points by the 12th minute to move 0-4 to 0-2 ahead – the Doneraile points by John Cronin and Lee O’Shea.

For the remainder of the half Doneraile gave a great account of themselves with William Cronin, David Sheedy, Lee O’Shea, Christopher O’Keeffe, John Cronin and Cillian Good making an impression.

Cillian Good had a point from a free before he was on hand to score the games opening goal in the 19th minute following good work by Garry Sweeney that moved them into a 1-3 to 0-4 advantage.

Further pressure saw Cillian Good and Christopher O’Keeffe with rapid points surge into a four point lead. As the half closed Dromina quickly found their range. Brian Buckley was denied a goal scoring chance when the Doneraile keeper Conor Curran made a splendid save on the line.

Nevertheless three points on the spin was followed by an injury time goal from Kevin Hayes that helped Dromina overturn a four point deficit to lead at the interval by 1-7 to 1-5.

On the changeover any hopes of a Doneraile staging a series challenge quickly vanished. Instead it was Dromina that started the second half the way they finished the opening half inspired by Paddy Burke, James O’Shaughnessy, Michael Naughton, Brian Buckley, David Jones and Kevin Hayes. Some well taken points by David Jones, Brian Buckley, Paddy Burke and Michael Naughton helped them move into a 1-18 to 1-7 lead by the 47.th minute.

Two minutes later a delivery by Paddy Burke was gathered by David Jones who billowed the net. It was all Dromina at this stage with substitute Jason Finn getting their third goal in the 56.th minute to make it 3-20 to 1-8.

A youthful Doneraile outfit battled to the end. Cillian Good and Stephen Roche had their goals in the space of a minute in injury time but it was too little too late with Dromina running out clear winners,.
