Harbour Rovers through to the quarter-finals

Harbour Rovers 2-21 Fermoy 1-13

HARBOUR Rovers champions for the past two years are through to the Hibernian Hotel JAHC quarter final following their good win over Fermoy at Ballyhooly on Saturday.

Fermoy enjoyed their best spell in the first half. Rovers opened with a point by Alex Sheehan. Fermoy replied with rapid points by John Ring (2) and Paudie Shanahan. In the fourth minute Stephen Condon cut the lead to a point.

Fermoy followed with a well taken goal by Pa Boyce that put his side 1-3 to 0-2 clear. The Glanworth side battled back well and they had some good points by Stephen Condon. Pa Boyce pointed in the 12th minute.

Two minutes later good play by Sean Finn led to a well taken goal by Stephen Condon that put his side 1-5 to 1-4 clear. Fermoy responded with points by their midfielder­s Ruairi O’Hagan and Trevor Grumbridge.

In the 20th minute Stephen Condon levelled for the second time 1-6 each. Both sides exchanged points as they were deadlocked again at 1-8 each after 29 minutes.

Brian Gallagher with an injury time point for the Rovers gave them a slender lead at the break 1-9 to 1-8.

Harbour Rovers dominated the second half. They were quick to get on top in the half back line and their supply to their attack was regular. Stephen Condon was in great scoring form.

The winners had five points on the trot on the resumption moving them 1-14 to 1-8 clear after just 36 minutes. Adam Creed and Paudie Shanahan had Fermoy points entering the final quarter.

The winners showed the greater power and six rapid points by Brian Gallagher Stephen Condon (3) Shane O’Riordan and Denis Gallagher had them six points clear 1-20 to 1-11 clear after 53 minutes.

Trevor Grumbridge kept Fermoy in touch with a great point. However a goal by Denis Gallagher in the 55th minute sealed victory as Rovers moved 2-20 to 1-12 ahead. Trevor Grumbridge pointed a Fermoy free with Craig Murphy having a goal from a goalmouth scramble in the dying moments.
