Domnics just about edge out Ballygibli­n

St Dominic’s 1-14 Ballygibli­n 1-12

ST. Dominic’s had a close win over Ballygibli­n in Round 2 Ballylough Milling Under 21 A HC at Kilworth on Tuesday evening.

It was keenly contested between two neighbouri­ng sides that had lost their first game. Ballygibli­n started well with two early points by George Pendle. St Dominic’s had to wait until the seventh minute when Stephen Condon opened their account with a pointed free. Good play by Stephen Condon to Michael Blackburne had the sides level at 0-2 each.

Ballygibli­n had their goal soon after when Jack Norris soloed through with Sean O’Sullivan finishing to the net following a goal mouth scramble. The Glanworth-Shanballym­ore side were back on terms two minutes later when a free by Padraigh Hannon was finished to the net by Robert McHugh 1-2 each.

They were also level at 1-3 each by the 15th minute. The winners gained supremacy in vital sectors forcing Ballygibli­n to concede some frees that were converted by Stephen Condon. Mark Keane pointed a free for Ballygibli­n, but St. Dominic’s had some good points by Stephen Condon, Jerome Fitzgibbon and John O’Sullivan that had them 1-9 to 1-4 clear at the break.

Ballygibli­n did well in the second half they lost George Pendle through injury but got on top in the half backline and midfield sectors. Michael Lewis also in great form at full back. Both sides opened with points as the winners led 1-11 to 1-7 after 41 minutes.

A foul on Jack Norris led to another pointed free by Mark Keane. Keane pointed another free following a foul on Cathal O’Mahony. St Dominic’s had a pointed free by Stephen Condon.

Ballygibli­n got back within a point when Mark Keane struck two points 1-12 to 1-11 in the 55th minute. A foul on George Pendle produced a penalty. Mark Keane’s effort was saved by Brendan Sheehan. Ballygibli­n forced level through Dylan Reidy-Price at 1-12 each.

They missed two good chances from frees before Stephen Condon gave the St Dominic’s side the lead in the 64th minute. Condon ensured victory with a point from play two minutes later that was followed by the final whistle.
