The Corkman

Game for some fun at golf club

-

AS the title suggests, ‘Puc and Putt’ is a hybrid game of hurling and golf, and has a fun element for all.

The sliotar is pucked from tee to green and is then replaced by a golf ball, and putted from there. The better poc and putt of all three is selected at all times.

The main attraction is that it can be played by a team of three, consisting of two hurlers and a person that can putt, or by all hurlers if they are reasonable at golf putting.

Previous golf experience is not essential.

Equipment is simply a caman and sliotar, a golf ball and a putter.

Long studs are not permitted as they would cause damage to T boxes and particularly greens.

Mitchelstown Golf Club in association with Pieta House have produced a DVD demonstrating the basics of the game. In the DVD, Aisling Thompson (Milford) Anthony Nash (Cork) Cathal Barrett, Michael Cahill (Tipperary) James Ryan (Limerick) are filmed enjoying the game.

Mitchelstown Golf Club and Pieta House wish to thank all of them for giving their time so generously at a time when they were committed to training with their county teams.

The DVD will be on social media outlets shortly.

The inaugural event will be held on August 10, 11 & 12 next at Mitchelstown Golf Club and should attract a lot of interest. Next year it is hoped that a national competition will be held ‘Poc@ Putt is the name and fun is the aim’.

Teams of 3: Adult - ladies and gents cost €120, minors €75. You can follow on facebook/twitter/mitchelstowngolfclub website. Enquiries to Myles O’Malley at 087-9082878.
