At Tullamore last Sunday, two more gold medals were won

and two athletes were selected to compete for Ireland against England, Scotland and Wales in the Celtic Games to take place at Santry Stadium in Dublin on Saturday, August 5.

Ciara Sheehy, under-16, competed in her second competition of the weekend on Sunday last to win her second shot medal. This time in the allIreland championships. She also broke the record for the event with a throw of 13.62m. This is her third all-Ireland medal out of three events. She was selected to compete for Ireland in the Celtic Games having been already selected to compete in Hungary for Ireland in the EYOF.

Vickie Cusack, under-18, also competed in her second competition of the weekend winning the javelin all-Ireland gold with a new personal best throw of 35.84m This is her seconde gold of the championships along with a bronze in the shot put. Vickie has also been selected to compete for Ireland in the Celtic Games.

Amy Whelan, under-16, competed in the shot put and while throwing well did not get into the meals. She won gold in the javelin last weekend.

The three girls above along with Johnny Murphy brought the club its biggest haul of medals in years, ie, six gold, one silver and one bronze. A great all-Ireland by everyone concerned.

Saturday last was a day of three types of competition for three athletes. At Tullamore, Emma Lehane, under-13, competed in her first all-Ireland championships juvenile B. In the 80m sprint she ran a great race to win the gold in a time of 10.96 secs. In the 600m which was run on 1.46.34, four seconds ahead of the next athlete, but it was not fast enough to win a second medal as she finished a very creditable fifth place. It was as great first day out for her.

Ciara Sheehy was on a different mission as she travelled to Santry to compete with the Irish Schools in the SIAB International. In her favourite event, shot put, she collected bronze with a huge throw of 14.76m. She was the top Irish athlete in the event.

Vickie Cusack travelled to Leixlip to compete in a senior international competition. She opted for the long jump, an event that she has been making great strides in recently. She won bronze with a jump of 5.47m.
