LAOCHRA ÓG WEEKLY ROUND UP

-

ON Tuesday August 1, Laochra Óg U8 boys had a friendly hurling match in Teerbeg against Kilmichael. There was a good turnout and some Laochra Óg lads took turns to jump in with Kilmichael to make up two teams each. Laochra Óge played three games – two ground hurling and one proper hurling . They were very competitive but the third game was the best of all .

The club would like to thank Kilmichael for coming and they are looking forward to the return match in Kilmichael in the next few weeks. They also would like to thank the parents and kids for the great attendance and for playing their hearts out, especially when their coach lost track of time in the second match and it was very long!

On Friday, August 4, the U10 Camogie team had a great game against Aghabullogue in Macroom Town Park, which was in fabulous condition. They were missing some girls who are away on holidays and didn’t have any subs, so there was no rest for the girls playing . They all played really well and all improving all the time.

There was great chat and banter between the girls on both teams who are all getting to know each other through sport.

A very special thanks to Tara, Eimear and Maisie who each had a turn in goals and all did super. Finally thanks to Roisín and Ava who shared refereeing the game and did a great job.

On Saturday August 5, a tight game finished up Laochra Óg 4- 6 to Tracton 4-7 and it was injury time heartbreak for the U14’s

With time up and one point to the good it looked like Laochra Óg u14’s had done enough but it wasn’t to be.

Five minutes injury time gave Tracton time to pull this one out of the fire. Tracton started the better and goaled early and soon after added a second. Laochra Óg stayed in the hunt with a brace of goals from James Burke but just as things started to look up, Tracton struck again with an effort that seemed to be going over but dipped at the last second to end up in the net.

Brian Healy goaled and Ben Lyons and Luke Duggan pointed but after a lot of good work Tracton struck the net for the fourth time.

Only four points separated the teams at half time. Things improved into the second half with David O’Connor outstanding at full back and Luke Duggan’s move to centre forward paying off with a well earned goal.

Jack Sexton played well at centre back and Brian Healy added more points. Overall the lads gave a great team performance and will learn from this game as we now focus in on championship.
