The Corkman

Third wave of horses and riders are on their way

-

TWO major shows completed and one more to go confirms a hectic equestrian programme in Millstreet.

The annual summer horse show lived up to expectations as a huge turnout descended on the picturesque Green Glens setting.

Again, a cavalcade of trucks and horseboxes descended on the North West Cork town, bringing international visitors from the UK, Europe and further afield. All credited Millstreet with a fantastic atmosphere and marvelled at the excellent facilities.

Over six days, patrons from far and wide flocked to the spacious Green Glens venue, where they were provided with the opportunity to view some of the international and Irish riders jump for honours while some of the foremost young horses and their owners searched for honours in the showing classes. With close on €200,000 prizemoney on offer, Millstreet’s reputation as equine’s friendliest festival was again confirmed over the week.

Meanwhile, preparations in Millstreet are at an advanced stage for the upcoming international horse trials at both the Green Glens Complex and Drishane Estate from August 24-27.

Over 150 volunteers will be required for the event, which features two days of cross country on Friday and Saturday with showjumping for the CIC classes taking place on Thursday and Friday and the feature CCI classes on Sunday. The organisers are welcoming applications from those interested in joining the Millstreet team ahead of another bumper week.
