Brave cancer victim Anne earns the plaudits on ‘Saturday With Miriam’

-

CHARLEVILLE lady Anne Herlihy, who was diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer in 2014, was a guest on RTE One television’s ‘Saturday with Miriam’ talk show on last Saturday night.

Anne’s appearance on the same show last year elicited a remarkable response from the general public and was described by talk show host Miriam O’Callaghan as one of the most talked about shows of the 2016 series.

Anne, who was accompanied by her husband PJ, told Miriam that she was feeling well and had a good year, and was presently waiting on the results of scans and was also looking forward to her grandchild, Ava, receiving her first holy communion next year.

When Anne first got the news of her diagnosis she wrote a bucket list of what she wanted to achieve while she was still able. One of them was to sing a duet with her favourite Irish singer, the Co. Mayo based Tommy Fleming. Tommy duly obliged and they both sang ‘Both Sides Now’ on last year’s show.

Tommy and Anne have stayed in touch since then and he was with her on the show on Saturday night. “It is a great pleasure to be her friend and I love her positive outlook and how she talks quite openly about her illness,” he said.

Tommy and Anne again delighted the studio audience as they duetted with a rendition of the Jimmy McCarthy penned song ‘ The Contender’. Miriam presented Anne with two tickets to attend the Ed Sheeran concert in Cork next year.
