Kilshannig 3-19 Kildorrery 1-10

AN evenly balanced Kilshannig side progressed to the semi-final when they ran out worthy winners over Kildorrery at Castletownroche on Tuesday evening.

The opening stages saw both teams quick into their stride with Paddy Pigott, Dermot Twomey, Jack Twomey and James Keating trading points that had the sides level for the second time at 0-2 apiece by the seventh minute.

For the rest of the half the better equipped Kilshannig outfit showed the greater scoring threat in front of goal. Tony Brennan with a long range effort edge them in front before a delivery by Jack Twomey in the 11th minute resulted in Kevin O’Flynn scoring the games opening goal.

It was all Kilshannig over the next couple of minutes and by the 20th minute they opened up a sizeable 1-6 to 0-2 advantage. Kildorrery fought back well in the run up to the break with Dylan Kent, P.J Keating, Cathal Harrington, Tiernan Condon, Anthony Crowley and their two Co minors James Keating and Ian Butler trying very hard.

However, in attack they depended too much on Keating for scores as they added three more points for his side before the interval that had them trailing 1-11 to 0-5. Any chance of a second half revival was quickly dashed on the resumption with Kilshannig gaining control.

Their entire forward line were in constant supply as they took score great scores.

Dermot Twomey had their second goal in the 33rd minute and they followed with points from Tony Brennan, Kieran Twomey, Colm O’Shea to move 2-14 to 0-6 ahead by the 37th minute.

Kildorrery missed a goal scoring chance soon after when James Keating set up Dylan Kent whose shot at goal went narrowly over the crossbar for a point. However Kilshannig continued to push forward.

In the 41st minute they were awarded a penalty that their keeper Jack Lyons drilled to the net 3-15 to 0-8. With the game over as a contest the last quarter was merely going through the motions, Kilshannig added points courtesy of Kevin O’Flynn (2), Kieran and Jack Twomey. Kildorrery battled to the end.

They had a point each by Ian Butler and Dylan Kent before James Keating completed the scoring in injury time when he billowed a 21 yard free to the Kilshannig net.
