- EUGENE COSGROVE

LAST Sunday’s Cork County Council sponsored Picnic In The Castle family event in the grounds of Mallow Castle proved to be a huge success with people of all ages coming out to enjoy the fun and entertainment on offer. MORE than 400 people gathered in pleasant sunshine on the front lawn of the castle’s superb grounds to revel in the atmosphere of the special day and enjoy an afternoon of first class entertainment.

Master of ceremonies Danny Buckley presided over proceedings, ensuring that the afternoon went smmothly and the various acts that appreaed on the specially erected stage did not miss their cues.

These included members of the Mallow-based Centre Stage School of Performing Arts and a selection of singers and dancers of various ages who kept the crowd entertained for more than an hour.

Among them were singers Sophie Ryan, Shauna Murphy, Ruby Wills, Amy O’Riordan and Emma Norton who performed a selection of popular songs from different classic stage musicals.

Young Katie Gallagher was also outstanding in a dance sequanced backed by colleagues, with the Out of the Box comedy circus duo and Billy Bubble with his magic Punch and Judy Show thrilling the audience.

While the rain that had been forecasted did eventually appear over the horizon it did little to damper the spirtts of the families who attended the very enjoyable and well organised event.
