AN author has very generously decided to donate the proceeds from the sale of his first novel to a Cork domestic violence charity.

Author Padraig O’Gorman has donated the proceeds from his book, ‘ The Drowning of Innocence’ to the charity You Are Not Alone ( YANA).

A spokesperson for YANA, a domestic violence charity said: “We were delighted to be contacted by Padraig when he offered to donate the proceeds of the sale of his book to our local bookstore, Philip’s in Mallow. It is an extremely insightful and thoughtful act of generosity that will not only make a difference to the women we support, but also raise the profile of our work in the area.

She went on to say that it is a beautiful book and a captivating read.

‘ The Drowning of Innocence’ is published by Icon O’Clast Press and it is described as a heart provoking tale which begins with a postcards with the words -’ You are in my heart always. Not a day goes by when I don’t think of you.’ This was found by Alannah at a Dublin flea market in 2010. The sentiments took her breath away and begged teh question: just who was the sender Eileen and who was the addressee Micheál

. Alannah’s exploration takes her into the heart of the Irish War of Independence and the Civil War.

Tragedy occurs and it is left to Alannah to reconcile the outcome a century later in a way which brings her and surprisingly into contact with both of them.

This book is set in county Cork and the historical novel describes the turmoil of a people in their quest for identity.
