Macroom under-14s trump Skib in hard-fought match

MATCH Results and Reports: U16’s beat Kilmurry in a practice game.

U14’s; On Saturday 13th the U14’s travelled to play Skibbereen in a challenge game. The panel has been unlucky with injuries and, as a result, were missing four players; many others were unavailabl­e for various reasons. The seventeen who played did very well. On a lovely evening, Macroom faced a stiff breeze in the first half. However delightful interplay had them leading at half-time by 5-9 to 2-8. Mark Hunt scored four points from midfield and Luke Aherne got 3-1, with Dylan Molyneux and Kieran Doody getting the other goals.

The second half was more evenly contested. Kieran completed his hat-trick of goals, and also notched 3 points over the hour. Martin Sosa and Frank Lazlo scored goals as well. The final score was Macroom 9-12, Skibbereen 5- 14. All the players did well. We were received graciously by Skibbereen and we look forward to their return visit.

The U8’s; they went to Éire Óg’s blitz on Sat. morning and played Nemo, Aghinagh, Ballincoll­ig and Canovee. They did well and enjoyed the day.

Other matters: We wish Gerry Kelleher (U-14s) a speedy return to football following his recent injury.

John Ryan, Juvenile Coaching Officer, organized: Ger Lombard, county goal-keeping coach, to tutor U-14 to U-21 goalies on Tuesday. James McCarthy, GDA, to coach the U-10 and U-16 mentors, also on Tuesday.

Next week: The U-13s will host the Mary Casey Blitz on Sat 19th August Naomh Abán, Dunmanway, Donoughmor­e and Kenmare are our guests. The teams play each other in a round-robin in TCP, beginning at 10.30 a.m.

After five rounds and four games each, the two leading teams will play the final in the Castle Grounds at 2.30pm.

Mark O’Sullivan, Manager, has a detailed schedule in place. Any and all help appreciate­d.

The U9’s will play Valley Rovers in the Castle Grounds next Saturday at 11am.
