Kanturk Boxing Club are back in training for new season

-

KANTURK Boxing Club, of Mill Road, reopened their doors last Wednesday, August 9, following their summer break. The boxers are hitting the ground running as they begin their training with plans already in the pipelines for the club.

Next week will see the girls of the club partaking in a female boxing summer camp in the Cork County Boxing Board HQ of Churchfield. The summer camp promises to be a fantastic experience for the girls as they will be further educated on nutrition and preparing for fights mentally. This will be great both physically and mentally for the five girls in preparations of the Celtic Box Cup next month, and the Esker Box Cup in October, in which the club will put forward a group of girls with county, Munster, all Ireland universities, and all Ireland titles amongst them. Early in November Kanturk BC will be out in force again when the boys will join forces with the girls in the first

Wexford Box Cup.

Coach Jim McConville is confident of the club’s chances amongst all these tournaments. The club is going from strength to strength, and following the successes of the previous two years promises to be another fantastic year!

Last year the club claimed titles at County and Munster level. The club also claimed National silver, and an All Ireland champion in the youngest member of the club, 11 year old Katie O’Keeffe. Young O’Keeffe will be amongst the squad that Kanturk will be sending to Esker and Wexford in the coming months. Kanturk BC is now opened to new members, and anyone interested in joining can do so by contacting Jim on 0878122405, or calling to the club on a training night. Training is from 7.30pm to 9pm Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
