ALL is set for the official renaming of Charleville AFC’s Moatville grounds to Tim Fitzgerald Park in memory of the club’s former chairman and guiding light Tim Fitzgerald whose untimely death took place some years ago.

Former Irish international player Paul McGrath will officiate at the renaming ceremony prior to the kick-off of a special match involving Charleville AFC Legends who will play an Irish Legends selection on Saturday, August 19 to mark the official opening of Tim Fitzgerald Park.

This promises to be one of the biggest sporting occasions in Charleville in recent years and with the kick off timed for 1.45 pm, people are advised to get there early as a huge crowd is expected. Tickets will be available on the day but are also available at O’ Connells Bar, Centra and Supervalu supermarkets at €10 for adults, €5 u-16 and €20 family. Gates will open at 12 pm.

Among the former stars playing on the Irish Legends team will be Ronnie Whelan, Ray Houghton, Tony Cascarino and Mark Kinsella as well as a host of other Irish internationals of yesteryear.

However, the organisers also intend this to be a family day out and emphasise that there will be bouncy castles, ice cream van and face painting for the children.

That evening there will be a function at Charleville Park Hotel with a drinks reception at 7 pm followed by a four-course meal, music with the Lenihan Brothers and DJ Cillian will play into the early hours.

Tickets are €40 from O’ Connells Bar and the Charleville Park Hotel. There are a limited number of tickets still available for what promises to be a memorable night of sporting stars, where the general public have the unique opportunity of mingling with their football heroes that did Ireland proud in the international arena.
