Kilworth easily see off St Dominics Under 21s

-

Kilworth 1-17 St Dominic’s 1-10

KILWORTH’S Under 21 A Hurlers made it three wins from their three games played to date in the Ballylough Milling Under 21 AHC when they proved too crafty for St Dominic’s (Harbour Rovers / Shanballymore) at Araglin on Thursday evening.

Over the hour Kilworth who had already qualified for the final showed the greater urgency and found scores much easier to come by. The winners moved 0-2 to no score ahead early on before St Dominic’s struck for their goal when a clearance out of the half back line by Conor Dennehy made its way to the net.

Kilworth’s response was immediate. Jeremy Saich levelled matters with a point in the eighth minute. From the puck-out Kilworth won possession where a quick delivery from midfield saw Ronan Abernethy cut through to score a great goal.

Over the next couple of minutes exchanges were close with Brian Sheehan and Stephen Condon swapping two points apiece by the end of the first quarter. However, as the half went on Kilworth aided by the breeze gained the upperhand with Eoin McGrath, David Twomey, Kealan Condon, Jeremy Saich, Trevor Hynes, Jamie Sheehan, Eoin Carey and Brian Sheehan to the fore.

Their authority on proceedings was reflected when they surged into a 1-11 to 1-3 lead by the 26th

Grange v Doneraile, Glanworth 7pm minute. Just one more score was registered before the break when Stephen Condon pointed a free for the St Dominic’s who trailed at the interval by a seven point margin.

On the changeover St Dominic’s who needed to win to be in with any real chance of reaching the final started in a very determined mood. They did very well early on but never looked like getting a goal to keep their season alive. Padraigh Hannon and Stephen Condon with a point each reduced the margin to 1-11 to 1-6.

Try as they might they were unable to close the lead any further. Kilworth restored a seven point cushion when Eoin Carey and Brian Sheehan were on target with points entering the last quarter 1-13 to 1-6.

St Dominic’s refused to yield. Stephen Condon pointed two frees in as many minutes but they were unable to get a goal to set up an exciting finale. Instead it was Kilworth that outscored their opponents by four points to two for the remainder of the game to run out deserving winners.
