Massive game set for Kilbrin

THE latest instalment to Charleville and Kanturk promises to attract a fine attendance to Kilbrn for Round 2A to the Co. Premier IHC on Sunday.

Worthy first round wins by both sides eases the pressure yet it makes for a lively tussle. Charleville emerged from junior ranks in 2011, reaching the semi-finals at intermediate grade in their first season up, and going under by a point to eventual champions Kanturk at the quarter-final stage in 2013 before coming good two seasons later to sweep past Dripsey.

Indeed Charleville got off to the best possible starts in the current campaign, nudging past reigning IHC winners Fr O’Neills in Round 1. Backboning the side is Darragh Fitzgibbon, assisted by County Intermediate panelists Danny Flynn, Darren Casey and Alan Dennehy.

A disciplined and patient performance brought Kanturk fitting reward on overcoming Castlelyons in the opening round. On doing so, Kanturk turned the tables on a defeat to their East Cork opponents at the same stage two years ago.

As the game aged, Kanturk operated with an intensity that Castlelyons failed to match as Paul Walsh and Darren Browne secured the bolts in the heart of the defence, Lorcan McLoughlin remained ever reliable with Lorcan O’Neill and Ian Walsh shining in attack.

Intercounty involvement will have curtailed the preparations of both sides yet the fare on offer promises to be competitive, the loser will be facing up to Courcey Rovers the following weekend.
