The Corkman

A tasty county final awaits

-

THE meeting of Robert Emmets and Kilshannig offers a tasty affair to the County U21B Football Championship Final in the second of the appealing double bill at Pairc Uí Rinn on Friday evening.

Both sides enter the fray with impressive credentials and it makes for an appealing clash. Robert Emmets comprising Newmarket and Lismire endured a roller coaster journey within Duhallow, losing out to Boherbue first time out before rallying strongly to better Knocknagree and overcome Millstreet to win divisional honours.

Into the county, Emmets were hard pressed to get the nod on Kilmacabea and they weathered a comeback from St. Nicks in a semi final. Central to their game are Jamie Hayes, Aidan Browne, Michael Cottrell, Cathal Browne and Conor O’Keeffe.

Kilshannig answered many of the questions asked of them en route yet similar to Emmets, their journey wasn’t without a hiccup.

Sweeping past Charleville and Clyda Rovers saw Kilshannig progress to a meeting against Mallow.

Victory belonged to the A ranked Mallow yet a five point defeat saw Kilshannig take their place in the county B grade that yielded an easy win against Shamrocks. That set up a meeting against Naomh Abán in a semi-final, super sub Eoin O’Sullivan emerged the hero of the hour to deliver a winning goal in injury time.

Key to the Glantane based outfit are Brian Guerin, Conor McMahon, Jack Twomey, Darragh O’Sullivan and Jack Kearney. Both sides have recovered well from reversals within their own divisions and it makes for an intriguing clash.

Expect a real battle to the last minute yet Emmets can avail of players holding Premier Intermediate experience that may be good enough to shade matters thus making amends for a defeat to Canovee in the 2013 decider.

Kanturk to host Football Final

THE pairing for the E Tarrant & Sons Skoda Duhallow JAFC Final is complete and the showpiece decider between Boherbue and defending champions Knocknagree is confirmed for Kanturk on Sunday, August 27 with a 2pm throw.

This will be the 7th meeting between the sides in a decider, to date, Knocknagree hold the upperhand with five outright wins as against Boherbue’s lone win in 1988.

By virtue of landing four consecutive league titles, Boherbue will enter the fray with confidence yet Knocknagree hold a strong incentive too on searching for another three in a row of JAFC accolades, the only club to have completed the achievement.

Meanwhile, just five teams remain in the Kanturk Co Op Mart JAHC, a lone quarter final between Kilbrin and Millstreet (scheduled for Saturday, August 26 or Saturday, September 2) will determine who joins Banteer, Dromtariffe and Tullylease in the semi-finals.
