Millstreet and Glanworth to face off in Castle

-

THE meeting of Millstreet and Glanworth promises an interesting tussle at Castlemagner on Sunday evening.

Glanworth are amongst those shortlisted for outright honours, easily disposing of Douglas in Round 1 where Shane O’Riordan grabbed a pair of goals with eye-catching performances delivered by Brian Gallagher, Robert O’Driscoll, Ger O‘Neill and Michael Sheehan.

Their County League Division 3 form is encouraging with wins recorded over senior sides Aghada and Dohenys in addition to running Bantry Blues close and drawing with Fermoy. And with the lion hearted David Pyne and Seán Finn expected to return, Glanworth parade a formidable line up.

Millstreet owed much to a polished opening half performance that laid the groundwork to better Mayfield. The Duhallow side refused to be ruffled after a wasteful Mayfield threatened to snatch the initiative during the closing quarter on halving a six point deficit.

Key to Millstreet’s involvement were Oisín Murphy, Shane Hickey and Paul Sheehan in defence, supported by Mark Ellis, Kevin Crowley and Michael Vaughan. Millstreet’s league form is mixed in Division 5 and a big improvement will be required here.

Whatever the outcome, both Millstreet and Glanworth will remain in the hunt, the losers face Mitchelstown in Round 3. Glanworth appear to hold a strong balance around the field, fancied to get the job done here and perhaps keen to avoid meeting neighbours Mitchelstown until later in the campaign.
