Reunion planned for former M etlife Fermoy staff

IF you are one of the people in the attached photograph, you may be interested in an event set to take place in Fermoy early next month.

The grainy photograph was taken more than two-decades ago at the farewell party for Metlife staff after the company closed the doors of its Fermoy office for the final time.

One of those in the picture, Fermoy man Ken Barry, said the news that Metlife is to open a new global technology hub in Ireland, planted the seed for an idea in his head.

“Although the new campus will be in Galway, it reminded me of the good times that I spent while working for the company in Fermoy. The Mill, as it was fondly known, employed up to 150-people and some great friendships forged by people working there,” said Ken.

“With the arrival of BUPA and then Quinn Healthcare many employees were able to stay in Fermoy. However, others moved onto pastures new and lost contact with their former colleagues. It would be great to meet up again and find out how everyone has been getting on over the intervening years,” he added.

With this in mind, Ken has organised a reunion of former Fermoy Metlife staff at the Mart Bar from 8pm on Friday, September 1 – precisely 22-years to the day that Metlife closed down its Fermoy operation.

“It will be a great opportunity to take a trip down memory lane, catch up with old friends and find out what people are up to,” said Ken.

“There were plenty of pictures taken during our nights out at the Mart Bar and other local venues, so it would be great if people could bring those along on the night,” he added.
