Great sadness on the deaths of Ned Barry, Ballygibli­n GAA founder, and Tom Quirke

- THE LATE NED BARRY

The death occurred after a short illness at the Mercy Hospital Cork on August 11 of Edmund (Ned) Barry Croughevoe, Mitchelsto­wn.

The late Ned was a very popular member of the local community.

He was a founder member of Ballygibli­n GAA club in the mid 50s and was a noted hurler in his day.

He served the club as Chairman for many years, was also the first Juvenile Club Chairman in 1980.

He was one of the majonr driving forces behind the opening of the playing field and dressing rooms in 1984.

He was a noted family man and a devout person. His popularity was borne out in the very large and represente­d attendance that were present at the family home on Saturday for his funeral.

Members of Ballygibli­n GAA held a Guard of Honour as the cirtege made its way to Ballygibli­n Church on Saturday night.

There was also a fine attendance on Sunday for the Requiem Mass in Ballygibli­n Church.

Interment took place in Brigown New Cemetery. To his wife Mary (Nee Walsh) sons Edmund, John and Paul, daughters Margaret (Buckley) Una (Fitzgerald) Maureen (Devine) & Tricia, sisters Mary O’Connell, Peig Duggan, brotehrs John & Matthew, grandchild­ren, great grandchild­ren daughters in law, sons in law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and many friends we tender our sincere sympathy.

THE LATE TOM QUIRKE

The death occurred on August 12 at St Patrick’s Hospital Fermoy of Tom Quirke, Derryvilla­ne, Mitchelsto­wn.

The late Tom was a very popular member of the local community.

There was a very large attendance at the removal on Sunday evening from his home to Holy Cross Church Glanworth and also at the Requiem Mass and burial on Monday.

Interment took place in the Old Cemetery Glanworth on Monday.

To his daughtes Ann (O’Mahony), Marguerite (Byrne) son Tomas, sons in law Dan & Alan, daughter in law Kay, grandchild­ren brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, relatives aand many friends we tender our sincere sympathy.
