DEFIBRILLATOR

Coiste Forbartha Réidh na nDoirí have purchased a new AED de-fibrillator and it is mounted on the wall of Oifig a Phoist. It is very reassuring to have this vital equipment accessible to all at this public venue. There are way too many to thank by name but thank you to anyone who organised, helped out in any way, to our generous sponsors of raffle prizes, ticket sellers and of course everyone of you who came out to support their local club. The event really showed off the extent and standard of the club’s facilities and the willing nature of our volunteers.

Clondrohid under-8s travelled to Éire Óg last Saturday morning to take part in another Monster Blitz. They fielded two teams and everybody played three games. Great fun was had and as usual did their parents and coaches proud. Well done to all involved.

Under-15 B County Championship result: Clondrohid 2-11 Sam Maguires 1-13. For the second year in a row Clondrohid’s under-15 team have reached a county semi-final with a hard fought win over a much bigger Dunmanway side. Our opponents started well and got the first score but once we got moving we ripped them apart and struck for two goals from David O’Connell and Conor Dineen.

A feature of the early exchanges was the hard running of JK Long at centre forward which stretched the defence and created the openings for the two goals. Sam Maguires hit back and scored three points but then Ciaran O’Leary got a point before the score of the night came from wing back Conor Lucey, who set off on a run ending with a great finish over the bar. David was in great form all night and got the next two scores followed by George Lowrie bursting through and clipping a great point off his left to leave us comfortably ahead 2-6 to 0-6 at half time.

Goalkeeper Conor Murphy was in great form and his lengthy kick outs were hitting Ciaran O’Leary and George Lowrie with ease. Our full back line of Liam Coleman, Jerome Healy and Conor O’Leary were holding firm against three good opponents. Half backs Gearoid O’Connell, Alex Kelly and the aforementioned Conor lucey were driving forward at every opportunity and supplied the forwards with quality ball with JK running at them and David O’Connell and Conor Dineen finishing in style. Our young full forwad line Lorcan Flanagan Luke Duggan and David O’Connor were up against big strong defenders but never gave up all through.

We started the second half well and points from Ciaran and David had us in control but Sam Maguires had other ideas and went on a run and got four points before disaster struck as we lost George (BC) Gearoid and Alex (injury) in quick succession. On came Nathan Kelleher Fionan O’Leary and Oran Manning and never gave an inch.

Backs to the wall stuff now two pts up but under severe pressure and then two breakaway scores from Ciaran and Conor D four up but then Sam Maguires struck for a goal and its not looking good but the leaders stood up and driven on by Jerome and JK we attacked and that man again David O’Connell drove over another. Sam Maguires replied again and then came a score worthy of winning any game as Ciaran split the post from 45m.

Heart stopping stuff but we held on for the win and its on now to a semi-final meeting with Aghabullogue next wednesday. Thanks for the support especially from the U 16 players who always help out at the games and show the spirit within this group of players. is also a vital tool in improving the tourism and economy of the Lee Valley area.’

AGHABULLOGUE ADVANCE

The Aghabullogue Intermediate Footballers will take on Mayfield in round three of the County Championship in Pairc Ui Rinn on Sunday at 2 p.m. This will be a tough task for the boys as they take on a very fancied city side and the team of new and experienced footballers will have to be at the top of their game to progress. We wish them the very best of luck.

DRIPSEY FUN

The Dripsey Community Association and Dripsey Tidy Towns will hold their annual Fun Day on this Sunday, August 20,. A 6km fun run, a barbecue, face painting, Bouncy Castle, Games and outdoor music will all form part of what promises to be a great day at the Cross.

RYLANE FÊTE

The first ever Rylane Village Feté was a great success and saw many enjoy a wonderful community event. The cake and coffee tent was busy all day as parents enjoyed some delicious cakes while the children played and laughed the whole day long. There was some great fun at the egg tossing and the giant Fuzeball games. The dog show brought dogs of all shapes and sizes to the community park venue. Lots of money was raised for the Community Park Association and judging by the success of this year’s event there is no doubt that the Rylane Village Fête will become an annual fixture on the summer calendar.
